but tbqh. i don't see people talking about internalized misogyny like that. if anything it feels like a monitoring tool—and i personally feel the word misogyny describes much of the actual things worth critiquing internalized misogyny for (such as the overcritique of other women)

and one could argue that the issue here is the fictional focus—that the point of naming internalized misogyny is how a unique type of self-hatred coming from external factors gets incorporated into your psyche and comes out in your daily life. and the point is talking about That Hatred Of The Self

this may also be influenced by my current social circles, where some friends of mine are constantly lobbing this term at their younger selves for various infractions where they weren't interested in female characters enough and also at other women who don't perform interest in fictional women/wlw

i do know what you mean, and i have seen it used in this way (and have used it myself), but i have also seen it more and more often used as a cudgel brandished against people doing fiction wrong, for example, or like genuine critiques of the feminine ideology foisted upon us are always misogynistic

maybe at one point this term was useful, but the consequences of it seem to be 1) reifying the current hegemony of patriarchal femininity in the minds of people who were once critical of it because girl power and 2) a bludgeon we use to punish the "bad AFABs" as it were
