How extraordinary it was to see a Eurasian Scops Owl tonight, locally here in Gower, and in December of all months! A fabulous little bird that was hunting in a suburban park. #GowerBirds #ScopsOwl @gowerbirds.bsky.social

The days are dark and short, and my mood seems to follow. But sometimes a thin ray of sun cuts through for a moment, and lights up the things I love, reminding me of how wonderful and beautiful they are, and it keeps me going

The Sixth Window. The Morning of the Feast of Saint Nicholas. The turret clock in St Thomas's had just rung five, and everyone in Watercress Lane was still asleep, apart from a young mouse in Medewort Cottage.

Speaking as someone who spends most of their free time reading or scrounging online for PDFs and other archived natural history material, you really can’t so better than amassing a physical library. There’s so much that doesn’t exist anywhere else but in books.

Painting of my character, Pudgy Horse, a horse of baroque type appearance with luxuriant mane and tail, and deliberately exaggerated proportions, including short, slender legs with dainty hooves and an extremely generous girth; here painted in tribute to one of the famous horses in the Lascaux cave paintings using similar colours and simplified shapes.

#PudgyHorse Lascaux Tribute 2. A companion piece to the first, following one of the other cave horses with a darker colour morph. Again, painted with pigments made by Mary Sanche from Cretaceous rocks from the Albertan badlands. From 2020.

The Verrazano Bridge at night in fog. I lived near that bridge in Bay Ridge Brooklyn and I loved shooting it in all kinds of weather and times of day. This was probably around 2007-ish.
