New Queensland guns laws to restrict weapons ownership to citizens The laws aim to crack down on rising gun crime and include tougher penalties for drive-by shootings.

Qld, like Tasmania, has not learned that letting the gun lobby write gun laws is akin to letting the tobacco, lead, asbestos etc industries write the rules that regulate them. If evidence is needed, look at the laws the gun lobby delivered to Tas before the Port Arthur massacre #guncontrolaustralia

Minns invokes special powers for NSW police to restrict protests during Israeli president’s visit Thirteen state and federal NSW MPs appeal to police to allow planned march protesting against the visit

The only redeeming feature of Herzog’s visit was the opportunity for peaceful protest. Minns has made a blunder. Peaceful protest is the essence of democracy, and Herzog as representative of the State of Israel should feel the clear message from many in the Australian community.

Compare & contrast. This is Trump’s demand for Greenland. And this is Hitler’s for the Sudetenland.

There is no difference. The language. The unstoppable need to dominate. The megalomania. It’s the same.

And Keir Starmer’s response is appeasement. We are in that moment.

40 guns, 250kg of ammo seized in police raid on 78yo's home Tasmania Police has seized 40 guns, including eight unregistered and stored incorrectly, along with 250 kilograms of ammunition from a Launceston home.

Who needs 31 guns, and 250 kg of ammo in Launceston? And why is someone even allowed 31 guns in Launceston? #guncontrolaustralia

Perth man pledged support for Bondi shooters hours after attack, court hears Police found a bomb-making shopping list when they searched the home of a man who allegedly posted on social media that he supported the gunmen behind the Bondi terror attack, a Perth court has heard.

This story shows that while WA has new gun limits (from March 2025), they may be too high, and there’s still questions about enforcement of gun limits. And limits on ammunition purchases as a reform issue must be taken seriously. #guncontrolaustralia

Albanese and Labor could barely have been more supportive of Israel, or less sympathetic of the Palestinian civilians massacred and starved. Did that satisfy News Corp? Not even.
And now he invites the president of the genocidal state to visit. Does he think they will lay off now?
Ofc they won’t. 🤡

Strengthen our laws to reduce gun violence - Bondi terror attack… We at the Alannah & Madeline Foundation are mourning the devastating terror attack at Bondi Beach, which claimed 15 lives and irreparably damaged many…

Australia’s gun lobby is again trying to stall essential gun control reforms.

We already pay as much rent as mainlanders, food is more expensive and wages are lower. Going to big events isn’t possible for most. We’re becoming one of those tourism destinations where the locals can’t afford to do anything. The stadium will massively accelerate that process.

Cutbacks, revenue raising in line to help fund Hobart AFL stadium Tasmania's premier and treasurer agree to reduce borrowings for government businesses in an effort to accommodate more debt for the Hobart AFL stadium.

Is it just me, or is this statement by Dean Harriss MLC a deluded belief:

“Mr Harriss said he believed the government's promised measures would help to address state debt, while attempting to accommodate more debt for the stadium.”

“One speaker, local real estate adviser Jacob Field, described his audience as ‘makers’, while the anti-stadium brigade were ‘takers’.” What does a real estate advisor make, do tell, Jacob. And how exactly is draining the public purse for the benefit of a select few not “taking”?

What would it be like to visit the proposed Hobart stadium? From potential gridlock to an "immersive" viewing experience, let's set aside the politics — just for a moment — and look at what planning documents tell us about the building at the heart of Tasmania...

@ABC, what about asking what would it be like to experience ANZAC Day at the Cenotaph with the stadium dominating the area, and desecrating the Cenotaph? #nonewstadium

We couldn’t afford a stadium 2 years ago at a cost of $750m (++). We can’t afford it today at $1.13billion (++) and we won’t be able to afford it late next year when contracts are signed for maybe $1.5billion (++). And the ++ is in the order of at least $350m (that we know of). #nonewstadium

Tasmania’s economy is in a diabolical situation. Saul Eslake says no one is to blame but the Govt. Eric Abetz must be held accountable. We CANNOT afford a stadium.

Cricket Tasmania 'confident' of roof fix to proposed Hobart AFL stadium Cricket Tasmania and the Macquarie Point stadium proponent believe they have found the solution to concerns about how the stadium's roof could affect cricket.

This is what they said in July to the Planning Comm. Now, they admit no accreditation until the Stadium is built. And the building is only 70% designed. If no cricket accred, who pays? @kristiejohnstonmp.bsky.social @andrewwilkiemp.bsky.social @ruthforrestmlc.bsky.social @megwebb-mlc.bsky.social
