Hereโ€™s the link to MPI and a map showing the intertidal areas closed to gathering from 12 March.

Note that taking kina is still allowed.

Of course Jones turned it into a migrant bashing opportunity not too long ago.

This needs to be expanded but itโ€™s also a good start. (I live on Whangaparaoa peninsula and the locals have been wanting this for some time)

Sadly he used it to rail against migrants.

Collecting seafood. Thereโ€™s a paywalled article on the post.

Ngati Manuhiriโ€™s original application proposed closures across its entire jurisdiction from Mangawhai to south of Okura River inc inner Hauraki Gulf Island. Including around the islands in the area.

In the โ€œShane Jones has actually done something usefulโ€ file โ€ฆ
Heโ€™s approved a 2 yr rฤhui on:

Zone 1: coastline between Cape Rodney-Okakari Point Marine Reserve and Tฤwharanui Marine Reserve. This includes Omaha.

Zone 2: between Tฤwharanui Marine Reserve and the Kawau Bay HPA

๐Ÿคฃ but thatโ€™s where you started. Telling us your opinion on who should be able to vote (on a thread that starts with citing many countries voting systems).

And then thereโ€™s the time period over which to measure the net positive (or negative) contribution to the economy. 1 month? 6 months? 1 year? 4 years? 10 years?

Someone could have a long term health issue, be studying and come through all that to then be able to get into the workforce.

14.02.2026 01:31 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

And of course students while they are studying are not net positive for the economy.

Every dollar that goes to someone on the breadline gets cycled back through the economy.

What about people who, through no fault of their own, have long term health issues? They bring a cost to society. Your approach would mean they cannot vote.

Iโ€™ve seen a post here where someone said NZ Post was an experiencing delays due to the large number of UK passport applications they were processing (ie. the NZ to UK mail system was strugglingโ€ฆ )

13.02.2026 23:18 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Itโ€™s true. There are people in NZ who are scrambling to apply for British passports theyโ€™ve never needed prior to this change.

13.02.2026 23:16 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

If we continue down the path suggested then the more taxes someone pays the more their vote would count and we would have to monitor this regularly.

Yep! Iโ€™ve messaged him and he gave me some excellent advice a while ago. (I might message him and ask about our current preferred canal route too - in the Loire Valley)

๐Ÿคฃ Iโ€™m going to have to adjust to a slower pace of boating. The canal boat will cruise around 5 knots which is SLOW in comparison to my boat (23 knots) and the coastguard boat (35 knots).

Iโ€™ve been watching videos on YouTube and am looking forward to it.

๐Ÿ˜‚ I've been avoiding flying for work and it's circa 20 years since I was last in Europe (for my brothers wedding).

We're actively avoiding transiting through America!

S and I are planning a trip from NZ to Europe to visit my brother and family in Spain in September. We're also tacking on a week on a French canal boat and a few days in Paris and Rome. It's going to cost several arms and legs.

True - we don't have the economies of scale. (IMO our voter registration and voting approach would scale and the access to democracy would remain).
