What was the last update of a classic property that truly nailed the casting of iconic characters? 2009's Star Trek is pretty remarkable in that regard. You don't feel like it's new people taking on the roles. You just feel like they *are* those characters.

The word legend gets thrown around a lot but Robert Redford truly was. R.I.P. to one of the all-time greats.

Giving the original Running Man another look before Edgar Wright's take hits cinemas. This has to be on the list of absolute MOST '80s movies, right?

Yeah it's an ingenious pairing. I hear his take is like one guy (Austin Abrams AKA James in Weapons) wakes up to find the zombie apocalypse and the RE stuff we know is what he sort of bumps into.

Saw Weapons for a third time yesterday. Only solidified it as one of my favourites of the year, second only to Sinners. There's just something about the film's atmosphere that is deeply, impressively unsettling. Magnificent piece of work.

One battle... after ANOTHER?... in THIS economy?

Well I have to say Spinal Tap II put a big goofy smile on my face. Just getting to be in the company of these daft characters and songs once again made me happy. And while it doesn't even get close to the original, it's a lot funnier than you might expect from a 40-plus year legacy sequel.

Pound for pound, joke for joke, I think This Is Spinal Tap might be the funniest film ever made. So hoping the sequel lives up to even a sliver of that.

Anyone watched the first ep of HBO's Task? Always up for a new gritty TV drama and it's from the writer of Mare of Easttown which I thought was terrific.

Is Denzel the coolest movie star who ever lived? He's gotta be up there.

DTRT is probably his best film (that or Malcolm X). But Inside Man is my personal fave. I love bank robbery movies and there's just something so cool about its vibe. I revisit it often.

Inside Man is my favourite Spike Lee joint so I'm excited to see him reunite with Denzel for the first time since with Highest 2 Lowest. I've heard good things. I wonder why it took so long for them to collaborate again?

If nothing else it was very cool to see a samurai story in Scotland!
Oh yeah that scene in Weapons was absolutely bonkers!

Still to see Highest 2 Lowest, planning on it soon. Ballad is a lovely wee film. I wished I liked Tornado a lot more but this scene was a standout for sure.
