Counterpoint: Democrats want ICE razed more thoroughly than Carthage in 146 BC, the ideological territory in which it operates salted so thoroughly it never grows again, and every single one of these goons in front of a judge to face justice for their crimes.

approaching the problem of "roving death squads" from an incrementalist point of view is just a slow form of suicide

Don't Buy Starbucks! At any location, today and beyond, while workers are on ULP strike!

Don't Buy Starbucks! At any location, today and beyond, while workers are on ULP strike!

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

Obviously these people are, on a literal, factual level, insane. But it's interesting to think about this in terms of what it suggests about the actual function of bus fares and similar user fees: to keep undesirable people out of public spaces.

As a New York City sex offender who supports Israel and has taken a great deal of money from the government of Turkey: this one hurts. I won't lie. We will be back on the horse tomorrow, but tonight? Yeah, it hurts.

How Universal Child Care Could Change the Economy

Universal childcare wouldn't just relieve working families of a massive cost burden. It improves the whole economy.

"There are a lot of reasons building a child care system that works for everyone is important to our children, to parents, to employers and to economic growth."

I mean fine but if Mamdani was Spider-Man the editor of the big local paper would have a completely over-the-top and underexplained vendetta against him

what are you supposed to do when the "good" political party doesn't treat a dozen credible sexual harassment claims as disqualifying for a political candidate. how are you supposed to ignore that

What do you make of the people who called for Cuomo to resign in 2021 after the harassment report and then went on to endorse him for mayor four years later?
It’s small and it’s cowardly. Look, I understand that he has an ability to intimidate people. I understand that when they hear Their Master’s Voice, they jump. A lot of people just can’t psychologically figure out how to stand up to this guy. They have flashbacks and they think he’s going to win and they don’t want to have him go against them. I think a lot of mainstream politicians act out of fear. They want to survive, they want to get reelected. They don’t want to have too much conflict in their life, and so the easy thing to do is to give in to him. But it’s not in the interest of their constituents, and they will regret it one day because he turns against pretty much anyone who was his ally. I mean, that’s been a pretty established pattern. I don’t understand how a human being could call for his resignation and somehow forget about it. Or, as in the case of Senator Gillibrand, call out sexual harassment and then suddenly go neutral on what Andrew Cuomo did. I think a lot of voters look at that and realize there’s something profoundly wrong if leaders cannot stay consistent with their own previously moral stances.
