The other day I saw a video of an historian (maybe?) saying he didn’t understand why billionaires are opposed to being taxed more because “taxation is the compromise.” And that last ~500 years teaches us what happens when that compromise is not struck.

Can’t stop thinking about it.

$500 billion a year is enough to guarantee a basic income via a negative income tax with a 50% phaseout rate for all Americans, ending poverty and significantly reducing inequality and insecurity.

This country is under some kind of wizard's curse where every 50 years there's a crisis that reminds everyone why it's bad for a small gang of obscenely rich assholes to control everything, and we go ohhh and then we all immediately forget again

Obviously jail is the moderate position, but I am begging you guys to play it cool if you ever get a chance to be on a jury that decides this man’s fate. Wasted opportunity

I am never going to get over the fact thar so many Americans died that corpses stacked up in nursing homes and hospital morgues, that refrigerator trucks had to be brought in for the overflow, and that the big takeaway from Important Pundits is there should have been *less* mitigation.
