Is your library taking longer than other libraries to catalog a book?! Ignore any local understaffing and considerations of workers and use this system to streamline.

Clarivate showing CUNY how to use features of analytics today, how to compare our library to other libraries. All of this depends on Alma monopoly in the field, and the compression of our metadata, financial info and usage/circ all belong to same system. Nothing creepy about any of this.

Excerpt from Rutgers University Senate resolution calling for a Mutual Academic Defense Compact. The excerpt reads: "BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the Rutgers University Senate urges the President of Rutgers University to formally propose and help establish a Mutual Academic Defense Compact (MADC) among all members of the Big Ten Academic Alliance; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, under this compact, all participating institutions shall commit meaningful funding to a shared or distributed defense fund. This fund shall be used to provide immediate and strategic support to any member institution under direct political or legal infringement;"

This exciting resolution from Rutgers University Senate is exactly the kind of model I think higher ed needs: a mutual defense pact of, in this case, Big 10 schools. They call for member institutions to create a joint defense fund and make resources available to any member institution under attack.

Reading about Mahmoud Khalil has had me thinking about another student in upper Manhattan with the last name Khalil. Reem and her family were taken into ICE custody with zero cause, and students at City College got very loud about it. Student activists were instrumental to their release.

The thing keeping me going lately is helping folks where periodicals themselves are part of their studies. So much fun to help track things down and simply hear about these publications.

Would rather not have been right in all those warnings, but begging vendors now for a stable marketplace of books is not the answer.

It’s late but I remember being new to cuny and doing presentations warning about ebook licensing and more exp librarians were like “it’s all shit but what choice do we have” and that giving up still motivates me

No direct answer to my staffing question, but the mention of these employment laws might imply that there is a bevy of "streamlining" happening.

Could you have given us more time to make this change?
They did want to give some and support. The timelines are tied to very specific timelines and "employment laws" (!) and winding down a physical supply chain.

They'd like all TEXTBOOKS to be part of a SUBSCRIPTION in the future. 🤯🤑😫🤡

I've asked for them to share if there will be any losses of staff due to these changes...

Lots of offers to help us with every single situation and item that can no longer be done via Clarivate products to other situations. There is just no way that any company could be prepared to help on this scale, especially when their own staffs were not aware of these changes.
