I’m curious: to my fellow full-time game folks, what career did you get your start in?

I feel like the assumption is that most of us started in tech/software, but I’d love to hear about other paths folks took.

(I was a front-end web dev for about 10 years before going full-time in games.)

From football games (both types) starting with the kick off of a ball to start the game, so it’s informal slang for starting something.

1. Can anyone tell us if the grave is marked? 2. What happened to the "bronze ornaments"—I can't find any record of the site? 3. Instead of worrying about pagan desecration of the churchyard should we be grateful they were spared investigation of "the physical characteristics of the early Briton"?

Cutting from the Cambridge Independent Press, 4 Aug 1905: "Funeral for Two Prehistoric Skeletons in Bedfordshire. An amazing story is told concerning the action of the Bedfordshire police after the exhumation of two human skeletons near the site of the prehistoric British camp at Leagrave, Luton. They were both lying as primitive man buried his dead, "with his knees tucked up to his nose." Along with them were found some bronze ornaments of unmistakably ancient workmanship. Mr. Worthington G. Smith, a competent archaeologist, naturally thought that these skeletons would be treated as an interesting historical find. Instead of that the local police insisted that an inquest should be held on them. The Coroner, when summoned, appears to have seen the absurdity of this proposal. He was content to suggest that the bones should be buried in the Luton Churchyard."

Here’s a pentagon one.
My older colleagues used to call these ‘Rochester type’ covers, because it seemed the old (1950s to 1960s) Rochester City Council used a lot of them. ☺️

I’m a former highway maintenance inspector and emergency callout highway engineer.
Manholes without hinges are tapered and/or the frame has flanges/lips that prevent it falling in.
Most are circular or square/rectangular, but some are pentagon or other shapes. Various reasons for all of these. ☺️

I just filled out the survey and it does in fact ask about game key cards. I selected definitely would not buy every time it asked about them. Y’all should do the same.

I was librarian (then Head librarian) at my secondary school in the 1970s, so read everything by Stephen King and other ‘horror’ authors back then. ☺️
I don’t remember the covers, but I bet most were fairly generic/basic in their artwork. 🧐

I concur with this.
I was born in late August, so when I started Junior school I was only 6 and 11 months old.
By the time I left secondary school in May 1980, I was 15, but most of my class mates were going to be 17 in the June/July.

Saw this posted over on a UK Facebook page as an ‘unusual’ triangular manhole cover.
There are a few in my locality, but I can’t remember if there’s a specific reason for their shape. 🤔
