gen-AI is absolute shit with math (LLMs spit out plausible word combos, but can't really do logic problems), so it's good to hear they're not pushing it to auto-generate & mark the math homework at least😅

Teaching our kids to bypass the most nourishing, challenging, resilience-building part of the creative process is not going to work out well for any of us.

The rationale seems to be students have already turned off their brains, educators are desperately underresourced and overwhelmed, and administrations are cramming these "resources" down their throats, plus the narrative that they need to "teach kids AI to prepare them for the future" is relentless🤮

Unfortunately it's been widely adopted so far in districts I've seen—to the extent that weekly "tech tips" are a stream of how-to-use-AI to do your work (spoiler: it can't, but it sure can waste your time & convince your boss & students you're useless🫠) & its overrun school library conferences😬

But our notebooks turned out so pretty, I’m not sure anyone actually wrote in them (…which was kind of the point at writing camp…), so don’t be afraid to make a few messy ones along the way!😂

For covers, use doubled over plain or fancy paper, or cardstock, & decorate or not at preference. Just be careful to line up holes/don't cover with decorations!

(3/) Use any size paper & a hand or power drill for smaller spine holes, or a regular hole punch with letter sized paper & yarn for a very easy version for littles (I’ve done this with grade 3 & up, providing pre-punched paper, but if you use larger holes & plastic needles, you can go younger!)

Pro tools are gonna incl. fancy paper (mulberry?), “bone knife” folders for getting nice crisp folds & awls to punch the holes, but it’s easy to adapt.
