Edgar Wright's The Running Man is a very engaging, very well made sci-fi thriller with big "I know writers who use subtext and they're all cowards" energy. That is not a complaint.

Osgood Perkin's Keeper is the kind of film that was made because someone had a really, really good idea for an ending and then went "Yeah, I can get this out to feature length by keeping things basic and padding the runtime with some jump scares". Which is to say, its worth watching exactly once.

I think Keeper is a very solid horror film even if it's more jump scares than substance. It's the most basic examination of an interesting idea but very well made. I enjoyed it but have no interest in ever rewatching it. You could do worse, but 2025 had given us a lot better.

I'm going to say this really vaguely because Spoilers: what is actually going on in Keeper is about 60-70% the same thing as another big horror release this year and it's crazy how much MORE the other film does with same broad ideas.

Osgood Perkin's Keeper is a lot like Longlegs: really well made (superb cinematography, editing, sound design, music etc) but a kind of weak script.

A really slight movie in terms of what happens. Despite a great performance you can't call it a character study.

As true now having recently seen Predator: Badlands as it was five months ago having recently seen Predator: Killer of Killers.

2025 will go down as a historicaly trash year in most respects, but goddammit the list of top tier genre films that came out is hard to beat.

Predator: Badlands is a fun, funny, exciting, clever piece of pulp sci-fi action. It manages to be its own story while also remixing themes, scenes, and design elements from two classic franchises with subtlety and respect. It doesn't quite reach the peaks Prey did, but was still pretty awesome.
