Agreed, but isn't a "country pays" very non-capitalistic and kind of a communist cornerstone?

I didn't mean yours was balanced. I meant the idea of a fixed set regional representation is more balanced.
But yeah in both countries it's only a few small places that decide who runs the show.

Good questions, but hard to be retrospective if you fully believe in the exceptionalism, without ever going anywhere else.
Look at western Canada. Even though we have cabinet ministers, we still feel left out by the more populace east. That is one area that the US is better balanced, the Senate.

The UK and Canada are setup very differently than the US. We don't have the same gerrymandering going on, where politicians choose their voter, rather than the other way around

Is it just me, or are others tired of the stories "I thought it was only going to happen to other people, not me, because I'm in that special group"

@mark-carney.bsky.social I hope Canada will support Canadian Universities with open invitations to those caught up in the US bans.
We have some amazing, world class, universities here.
This would benefit all of Canada in the long term.

Hate and discrimination have no place in BC and equality isn’t up for negotiation.

Everyone deserves to live in safety, free to be who they are.

And we will always defend these rights.

Gee, how do those other countries get those rates?
Our gov't run health insurance, negotiates using their large purse, we also don't have legislation blocking that negotiation.

The wealth creation of globalization went to a small set in wall street.
If the backlash is about the wealth distribution, then the current answer of providing more open tax breaks to that group, which doesn't force local investment, seems pretty dumb to me

Maybe point of view comes into play? Ask most Buddhists and contributing to society is bringing joy into the world.
I have a friend who finally let others help, as he recognized it brought them joy.
It's not a bad thing to have that as a core principle.
