Premier of BC. Leader of the BC NDP. MLA for Vancouver-Point Grey. Husband and father of three.
We remain committed to fighting all forms of anti-Black racism as we build a more just and equitable society for all. Learning more about Black history here and around the world enriches us all.

We should all feel pride in this history, while we also acknowledge the unjust barriers Black people face in their daily lives. Our government is proud to work alongside the Black community across BC to advance equity, preserve Black history and strengthen
community well-being.

People of African descent have been a part of this province since at least 1858 when the first of about 800 free African American people arrived in Victoria. From those beginnings, Black Canadians have made enormous contributions to our province.

Black History Month is a time to honour, celebrate and reflect on the experiences and accomplishments of Black Canadians in British Columbia and across the country.

Like many British Columbians, Iโm alarmed by the violent crackdown on protestors in Iran. This week I spoke with the Prime Minister about the need to support and stand with Iranian Canadians worried about loved ones.
30.01.2026 18:08 โ ๐ 36 ๐ 9 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1Whatโs happening on the streets of Surrey is a terror attack in slow motion.
Extortion was a top priority for our work with the Prime Minister and Premiers across Canada.
We must do everything possible to keep our streets safe and get violent extortionists out of our communities.
BC is a stronger, more compassionate place because of our diversity. On this solemn day, and every day, we stand with Muslim communities in our province and throughout the country. We reaffirm our commitment to building a safer, more inclusive province for everyone.
(4/4)
Hate directed at Muslim communities has no place in British Columbia or in Canada. Our government remains committed to taking meaningful action to stand against hate.
(3/4)
Today, we honour those we lost and we hold in our thoughts all those who were injured and traumatized by this attack. We must continue to confront the reality that Islamophobia persists โ in public spaces, online and in places where people should feel safe.

9 years ago, worshippers gathered at the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quรฉbec when their evening prayers were violently interrupted by a horrific act of Islamophobia. 6 men were killed and several more were injured when a gunman shattered their sense of safety and sanctuary.

There is an old word to describe going to a foreign power and asking for their assistance in breaking up a sovereign country โ itโs treason.
Canadians are standing together in defence of this beautiful land. ๐จ๐ฆ
A busy day in a very snowy Ottawa. Meetings with Prime Minister Carney, federal ministers and fellow Premiers as we pushed for a coordinated crackdown on extortion, moving major infrastructure projects forward, and diversify our trading partners.
29.01.2026 03:34 โ ๐ 72 ๐ 15 ๐ฌ 5 ๐ 0Fighting extortion is our top priority.
20 additional officers, a national meeting to coordinate actions and ongoing discussions to do whatever it takes to get criminals off the streets.
PM @mark-carney.bsky.social and Minister Gary Anandasangaree, thank you for the productive discussions.
Many ask about our work with First Nations.
The Eskay Creek mine, announced today, would not exist without the partnership of Tahltan Nation.
Thousands of jobs. Funding services in your community. High demand critical minerals.
All because of the collaboration with Tahltan.
May the memory of those murdered in the Holocaust guide our actions, strengthen our resolve and remind us of the world we must create together: one built on truth, empathy and justice.

We are also continuing to work with Jewish communities to improve safety at synagogues, schools and community centres because no one should fear for their safety because of who they are. Confronting antisemitism is not optional. It is central to making โNever Againโ real.
(4/5)
This International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we resolve to ensure that remembrance is matched by action. We are strengthening Holocaust education in our high school curriculum, so every BC student understands the truth of this genocide and the consequences of hate.
(3/5)
Today, we honour the six million Jews murdered in the Shoah, along with the millions of Roma and Sinti people, members of the LGBTQ2S+ community, people with disabilities, political dissidents and all others targeted by the Nazi regime.
(2/5)
The Holocaust stands as one of humanityโs most profound moral failures. On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we confront that truth with humility, sorrow and resolve. โNever againโ cannot be a passive promise; it must be an active commitment to confront hatred.

BCโs mining sector is providing thousands of jobs for British Columbians while bringing hundreds of millions of dollars into Canadaโs economy.
Weโre making the permitting process faster, so we can unlock BCโs potential as the economic engine of Canadaโs new economy.

Youโre on the right path, Mark. Canada must stand on our own two feet. British Columbia has your back.

At a time when Donald Trump is pushing reliable trading partners away and creating global instability, B.C. is doing the opposite: diversifying trade, attracting new investment, and growing our economy as we become the economic engine of the new Canadian economy.

India will soon be the worldโs third-largest economy. B.C. just wrapped our first trade mission to India in over a decadeโstrengthening our deep people-to-people ties and opening doors for new trade and investment.

The Mt. Milligan mine expansion means hundreds of good, family-supporting jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars into BCโs economy.
Weโre going to keep that momentum going as we continue to advance major projects and make BC the economic engine of the new Canadian economy.
We also talked about the historic, deep-rooted people-to-people and cultural connections BC and Punjab share.

Last week, as part of our trade mission to India, we held a productive meeting with Chief Minister of Punjab bhagwantmann1 in Chandigarh. We discussed advancing trade and investment opportunities, collaboration on agritech, renewable energy, and skills training.

BC has what the world needs โ and the province is working to diversify our trading relationships, so we are less reliant on the United States and to keep our economy growing and support good jobs for British Columbians.

Itโs more important than ever to strengthen our trade relationships with international partners other than the US.
This week, we will be heading to India โ a key market for BC with enormous opportunities for trade.

Earlier this fall, I met with Shri Dinesh K. Patnaik, the High Commissioner of India to Canada.

BC and India have had close ties for over a century. I look forward to continuing those economic, social, and cultural ties as BC becomes the economic engine of Canada.
