I don’t recommend this to anyone who has not been certified firmly sane by a medical professional or religious figure.

I went to one of my local used bookstores yesterday evening and said the secret passphrase “Book Bowl” in exchange for a 40% discount on a mass market paperback edition of Stanislaw Lem’s Tales of Pirx the Pilot.

Not sure. But I guess she lives in the neighborhood, so next time I see her I’ll run as fast as I can in her direction and ask in as loud a voice as I can manage (in case there’s traffic noise).

Linda Perry from 4 Non Blondes wearing a very distinctive hat.

We were walking down Ventura Blvd. and saw a woman approaching in a very distinctive hat. The hat was noticeable from several blocks away. As the woman grew nearer, I realized she was Linda Perry from 4 Non Blondes, and this is the hat she was wearing.

Good piece! (Although I have a BIG problem with this book I dare not speak aloud.)

‘Melania’ Is a Lousy Film but Forever Part of U.S. History It’s less “Triumph of the Will,” more Jackie Kennedy’s landmark TV special.

My thoughts on MELANIA are in this Foreign Policy's weekend edition. Here is a gift link.

In the good old days, a handsome milk man would come to your house every day and make love to your wife. Now, it’s just an Amazon driver asking your wife to hold his piss bottle while he goons.

I started to feel bad for all the people waiting and cut the talk short. I shook Mr. Adams' hand and had him sign a page in my notebook. No idea where that went. I remember his palm being meaty.

There was more to his theory, including something about the Pangea supercontinent only being able to exist because the earth used to have less water. He said scientists don't know about this because they're not allowed to read about it. "I didn't get a Ph.D., so no books are forbidden to me."

Meanwhile, the line for Mr. Adams' autograph was growing longer and more restless. He ignored it. I asked if he needed to sign some things, and he waved off his fans. "They can wait," he said. "This is more important."

"Dinosaurs couldn't walk around today," Mr. Adams said. "Their legs would break and their necks would snap." The whole time we had this conversation, he was drawing a magazine ad for M&Ms, which depicted anthropomorphic M&Ms decorating a Christmas tree.

The legendary comic book artist Neal Adams went on to explain the existence of dinosaurs is proof of his theory. Animals used to be able to grow really big because the earth was smaller and thus had lower gravity.

Eventually they grow so large they can't sustain themselves and explode. This is the origin story of our solar system's asteroid planet. It used to be a big, chunky planet. Its matter-making cloud will congeal again somewhere else eventually and make a new planet.

Over millions of years, these clouds keep spitting out more and more material, and the planets forming around them get bigger and bigger. Some are rock, some are gas. But they're all formed the same way.

He explained to me that all planetary bodies are made by clouds of matter-creating...matter?...that float around in the universe. These clouds spit out gas and rocks and dirt evenly in every direction, eventually forming a kind of crust around themselves.

He lit up. "Have a seat," he said, and swept some papers and a sandwich wrapper off the aluminum folding chair beside him. I had to turn sideways to squeeze between his table and the one next to him so I could get back there.

This was many years ago. Mr. Adams was signing and sketching at a table. I'd heard he had some strange theories about physics and geology, including that the earth is hollow, so I waited in line until I got to the front and said, "Mr. Adams, I'd love to know more about your hollow earth theory."

I summarized this story in a comment the other day, but I'll go into more detail here, in what's known as a "thread." I once had an hour long conversation with the legendary comic book artist Neal Adams about his theory that the earth is hollow.

In short, there’s a matter-making cloud in the center of the earth that keeps spitting out matter and making the planet bigger and bigger. The evidence: The earth has to have been smaller in the past or gravity wouldn’t have allowed dinosaurs to grow so big.
