Starmer fans are not criticising Corbyn for writing in the Telegraph, but are criticising Corbyn fans for a) criticising Starmer when he writes for it, and then b) supporting Corbyn when he does.

This is just obvious hypocrisy.

I think the obvious point is that Corbyn fans have in the past very vociferously criticised Starmer for writing in the hard right press.

But don't when Corbyn does it.

You can criticise Labour people for hypocrisy if you want, but that ofc highlights your own.

Amazed the @financialtimes.com subs allowed a total misrepresentation of the previous government’s Rwanda policy by @lauramdubois.ft.com to be published. This is absolutely not what the scheme was. Anyone sent to Rwanda would have been permanently forbidden from claiming UK asylum.

One thing it ignores is that the distribution in the top 1% of earners is different - massively larger - today than in the 60's and 70's, and of course capital is massively more mobile now than it was.

As the article says, there are billions available through closing loopholes

Higher earners were taxed on their income much more in the 1960's and 1970's - and of course taxes on income from capital, capital gains and inheritance for large estates were all much higher.

As a result, inequality was lower, and there was more money to invest.

I think the international demand for some skills, at some levels, is significant - but the state can influence doctors take home via both pay and tax.

The number of legal, finance and IT professionals for whom moving to Middle East or the States is practical (family, partner etc) is not huge.

And this of course is why no politicians - populist or otherwise - are doing it.

Because doing so is a guarantee of defeat and subsequent irrelevance.

You can reasonably blame the media for not highlighting the nonsense spouted.

But to blame politicians for not standing in opposition to how voters actually behave at the ballot box (rather than what they say to pollsters) is unfair.

If voters want the impossible (which they currently do), and consistently reward parties and politicians that say they can have the impossible, and punish politicians who say "hold on, that's daft, better services mean higher taxes", then it's no surprise that politicians do what they do.

This is all true.

But we need to remember that some on the left don't care. Starmer was mean to Corbyn - and for them, this is absolutely unforgivable, regardless of the transformational things the government does.

This is an oh so common perspective of the "REJOIN NOW" lot.

The *political* campaign to bring a lasting majority of UK voters round to a "we need to rejoin the EU *and* accept we will *not* get our previous opt outs on Euro and Schengen" view will take many years - & hasn't really even started.

This is oh so plausible.
