Who Doesnβt Have a Car?
A new NRDC map shows car-free living and the factors affecting car usage in United States.
More than a third of Americans donβt have reliable car access to get to work, school, or the grocery store. Our new transportation map can help policymakers better understand their communities and build a system that will benefit everyone.

Voters across the Kansas City metro support a sales tax for better bus service, new poll finds
A new poll from the Kansas City Regional Transit Alliance found that voters in four counties across the metro would support a regional sales tax dedicated to bus service, even as soon as next year.
Kansas City Regional Transit Alliance Vice Chair Michael Kelley says the poll shows that people across the metro will support public transit if their local governments invest in it, especially at a time when the state and federal governments are pulling back transit funding.

Image from KCRTA. The text reads: "We believe that public transit funding is a REGIONAL problem. So we decided to hire the top transit pollster in the country to ask real voters in Jackson, Johnson, Clay, and Wyandotte Counties if they would vote to approve a sales tax that would fund a regional bus system. Here is what a majority of voters told us..."

The media treats Democrats as the only political actors with agency, responsible for everything happening
Republicans, by contrast, are treated like zoo animals: odd, fascinating, but never to be judged and, perhaps more importantly, never responsible for their own decisions

2022 Kansas abortion referendum
KANSAS

Should there be no Kansas constitutional right to abortion or to require the government funding of abortion, and reserve to the people of Kansas, through their elected state legislators, the right to pass laws to regulate abortion, including, but not limited to, in circumstances of pregnancy resulting from rape or incest, or when necessary to save the life of the mother?

I genuinely cannot believe that Ezra Klein said we should run pro-life candidates in Kansas, Ohio, and Missouri; three states that recently held abortion referendums where the pro-choice side won!

Remarkable how centrist pundits like Noah Smith are still prattling on about "cancel culture" and "Bluesky-ization" while people are getting fired for insufficient mourning of a bigoted liar who constantly directed hatred towards the majority of Americans.

Opinion | Stop Acting Like This Is Normal
Excellent piece by Ezra Klein: if Dems really believe that Trump is creating an authoritarian government they should not continue to fund it. The shutdown is their only leverage right now to draw attention to what is happening and maybe force change.

One-Way Streets Are the Wrong Way to Tame Downtown Traffic
In the 1950s, US traffic planners thought unidirectional arterials were better for moving cars through urban areas. Now many cities are having second thoughts.
A simple way to improve American downtowns: Make one-way arterials bidirectional.
Doing so will improve safety, boost retail sales, and attract pedestrians.

Electorally speaking it's more important for Democrats to avoid Blueskyism that leftism. Not that Bluesky is important but it embodies all the characteristics that make progressivism unappealing to normal people. If you could subtract those the left would win more often.

(Now removed) Citypost Digital Advertising Kiosk with large sign that says βYour Ad Hereβ at the River Market West Streetcar stop
These digital advertising kiosks have been a huge eyesore downtown for the last 10 years.
IMO digital should be kept out of the public realm. It falls apart too easily and wonβt be lucrative or well maintained in low pedestrian footfall markets like KC.
