Gov. Greg Abbott threatens to remove quorum-breaking Texas Democrats from office Texas House Democrats flew to Illinois to block Republicans from passing a new congressional map that would boost GOP clout in Washington.

Abbott has responded with threats to either remove them from office or deploy law enforcement to bring them back. A total of 57 out of 62 Democratic representatives have left, effectively stalling the GOP’s plan by staying out of state.

The 35 richest Republican members of Congress have a net worth of $2.5 billion. 

They stand to gain from the GOP budget's tax cuts that disproportionately help the rich. 

Meanwhile, they're cutting Medicaid and food assistance for millions of their constituents.

Trump's budget includes massive cuts to vital programs in exchange for tax cuts skewed to the rich.

It's so unpopular that the House GOP voted on it in the wee hours of the morning last month.

Now, the Senate GOP is ramming it through over the weekend.

They want to hide it.

Without those conditions being met and without state consent, Trump’s move amounts to a clear violation of constitutional limits and federal law.

This maneuver also clashes with the Militia Clause in the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 8, Clause 15), which gives Congress, not the president, the power to call forth the militia under specific conditions like insurrection or invasion.

The National Guard has arrived in Los Angeles, but they were not requested by California. Both Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass made it clear that the state did not authorize or want federal troops deployed.
