This week I visited the Riverfront Library in Yonkers for the Summer Reading Buddies program. This program, through FSSY, supports children in strengthening their literacy skills and aims to prevent the "summer slide." We spoke about their favorite books and what they want to be when they grow up.

Secretary Bessent just made it clear, when he thought no one was listening, that the Trump Administration wants to privatize Social Security. Our EARNED benefits that for 90 years have helped older Americans retire with dignity. Apparently taking away healthcare from 15 million people wasn’t enough.

For 60 years, New Yorkers have relied on Medicare and Medicaid to access healthcare and live with dignity. These programs are now under attack, with 15 million people losing healthcare because of the Big Ugly Bill. I have not and will not support cuts to either program.

Alongside other decisions made by this administration, this rollback has the most lasting repercussions in the fight for our children’s futures and the environment.

Officer Didarul Islam, who was killed in the line of duty last night, worked out of the 47th precinct and lived in the Bronx. We join his colleagues and the entire Bronx community in mourning this great loss.

Last night a horrible shooting took place in Midtown Manhattan, with four innocent people killed, including a brave NYPD officer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of NYPD officer Didarul Islam and the other victims.

Today I was joined by local elected officials in pushing Amtrak for answers after a third delay to the Metro North Penn Station Access Project was announced this week. This project needs to get done.

My constituent services team made stops in Eastchester and Mount Vernon this week and were able to help constituents with issues related to Social Security, the IRS and the Dept. of the Treasury. They will be at the Scarsdale Library from 1-5pm today, with more stops to be announced in August.

The Bronxville Post Office has been closed since July 17th with no explanation to residents or the Village of Bronxville. USPS has been unable to provide me or my office with a re-opening date. This is unacceptable. Today I sent a letter to the Postmaster General demanding answers.

The House was scheduled to vote on a bill this week that would reduce clean water standards and set us back in the fight for clean water. I've worked with others for decades to improve water quality in Long Island Sound and other local bodies of water, and know that we can't stop our commitment now.

This week President Trump announced a deal to get weapons to Ukraine through NATO allies. While this is welcome news, it is deeply concerning that he continues to move the deadline for Putin to end the war or face consequences. It's time Trump stood up to Putin.

This Administration has shown open hostility to programs involving diversity, equity and inclusion. Policies to eliminate all DEI efforts are a vestige of the prejudiced past, not a prescription for a stronger future America.

Another bill passed in the dead of night. I voted NO. This one will rescind $9 billion in funding from critical foreign aid programs and public broadcasting here at home. All to enact an extreme ideological agenda.

This week on the House floor I sent a message to Luna, a 6-year-old who has recently been bullied for being different, that she belongs and she is valued. We must teach our children that differences are not deficits, but paths to empathy and connection. Our world could use a little more of that.

President Trump claimed his tariff policy would help our economy and reduce inflation. This week confirmed what many of us have been concerned about – the CPI ticked up in June and we expect it to continue to rise as Americans, not other countries, pay more for goods because of the tariffs.

The Atlantic reported the Trump Admin is planning to incinerate $800,000 worth of high-nutrition biscuits- food that was meant for starving children in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This is wasteful and cruel, and part of a broader, draconian foreign policy that puts ideology ahead of humanity.

This morning I joined my NY and CT colleagues for a roundtable with the LI Sound Citizens Advisory Committee. We discussed ways we in Congress can improve the health of the Long Island Sound. I look forward to collaborating on legislation to protect and preserve the Sound for generations to come.
