When Bruce Harrell pulled a gun on a pregnant woman over a parking spot he was 37 years old, which is about the same age Katie Wilson was when she helped write and pass Seattle's Jumpstart tax, which brings in $300-400 million a year

One of my enduring memories of Halloween in the 1960s is how little parents were involved in our Halloween activities.

Iβd be happy if Amtrak simply supported loading and unloading checked baggage in Wenatchee. Then I could bring my bicycle along. Lots of interesting riding over there.

Not owning a car is how I afford Seattle rents. Multiple policy failures here.

As a retired person, being car free is how I afford Seattle rents.

I can afford Seattle rents on Social Security only because I got ride of my car. Even owning a car and not using it is expensive. Insurance, licensing, and the fact that it's slowly rotting as it sits out in the rain day after day.

When I was a teenager in the 1960s, we said, "Never trust anyone over 30." In all the decades since I've yet to encounter anything that proves this wrong.

I do nearly all my grocery shopping on a non-cargo bike. Cargo bikes are very useful, but I push back on the idea that you need one in order to do transportation cycling.

I like to say that bicycles sometimes slow down cars, but cars slow down everyone all the time.

I'm quite confident riding my bicycle to downtown locations. Unfortunately I'm far less confident of locking it up and finding it unmolested several hours later.

A lot of homes were built for a climate that never existed. Climate change makes things worse, but the problem was always there.

I commuted from Bainbridge Island to Seattle via bike-ferry-bike for years. The novelty wore off the ferry ride after the first year.

I guess what I've learned from LLMs is that unique bodily experience is a thing that sets humans apart.
12.08.2025 01:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Nah. You just have a higher opinion of humans than me. I mean, does human intelligence really exist? Maybe. Some of them act like they're intelligent, but it could just be clever fakery. They could just be spitting out words that sound intelligent to other humans.
12.08.2025 00:39 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
The fact that human brains and LLMs are both based on neural networks has certainly explained a lot about human irrationality to me. If you ask an LLM why it just made such a ridiculous statement, it will come up with a reason. Just like a human in a similar situation.

Electric vehicles tend to be significantly heavier than comparable fossil fuel vehicles due to batteries. This increases tire wear and creates more tire dust. EVs help in many ways, but in this case they make things worse. Definitely not a silver bullet.

Thereβs a LOT of contention between cyclists and pedestrians on this route. Certainly better than nothing, but far from perfect.

Where I live a bicyclist collided with an older woman, and she died. The speed limit on the trail was lowered from 15 mph to 10. Not gonna argue with this, but wouldnβt it be great if every time a car collided with a person, we lowered the speed limit on that road by 33%?
