It is an inclusive approach. Yet to find a child who doesn't respond.

Flicking through some of the most joyful Concept Cat raps/songs on YouTube. Such a fun, engaging way to develop vocab! I can see this being a really useful approach for some of my gestalt language processors too (esp those at Stage 3 & beyond). Definitely worth checking out! @wordaware.bsky.social

Thanks! It’s a great way to switch off/de-stress. I’m on AL this week and have spent the morning making mermaid hair!

That’s a good point. I’ve contacted a local homeless charity asking if they might be able to donate/sell to raise funds.

I’ve also made him red wellies & a mini umbrella and a matching red hat - toddler sized for her to wear, but had to force myself to wrap it all up this morning because I don’t think I’d have stopped!

Still completely addicted to crocheting so I thought I’d make Paddington bear (& some of his many outfits!) for my granddaughter’s 3rd birthday. Really pleased with how these turned out πŸ’œ

I mentioned them / the book / resources to the 2 SENCOs but I don’t work on Fridays so haven’t had a chance to look myself yet. Although I’ve got all of the other WA books & I’ve no doubt this is just as excellent!

Also, agree, it isn’t a new concept at all, it’s just explained very well & fundamental to the approach a lot of children need - including the majority on my caseload who are gestalt language processors/AAC users, so I spend a lot of time explaining/modelling these things!

I think the examples alone are well worth the money! Only thing I’d change is the subtext & references to β€˜social learning challenges’ as I’d imagine that might put some ppl off.

Highly recommend this book for anyone working with children/YP who don’t do well with β€˜demands’ - it’s also full of simple examples of how to put the strategies into practice in everyday contexts (plus it’s only Β£7:50 on Amazon!)
