Instead of blaming the voters, you should be blaming the quota system that incentives voters to do what they just did.

You know what else is not easy? Keeping an Andy Reid or Sean Payton offense under 30 points in the playoffs.

And Thurman Thomas (only player to lead the League in yards from scrimmage for four straight years) isn’t even on that list!

So yeah, we should stop pretending “first-ballot HOFer” is a thing, because in football, it clearly isn’t a thing.

I’d blame the process more than the voters.

It seems clear that very little of what we are being told about this process has been true.

Did the quota system play a role here? In other notable snubs like Marvin Harrison or Thurman Thomas, the issue was voters wanting to get a favorite candidate across the finish line and figuring that candidates like that would have no problem getting in eventually.

And as you have pointed out - the reasons we have been told for the decision-making process have not added up ever since the season ended.

That is technically correct. The Pro Football Hall of Famer does not recognize “first-ballot HOFers.” They are all just Hall of Famers. Thurman Thomas, Marvin Harrison, there’s been a couple complete head-scratchers over the years.
