'Chaos and destruction': Chinatown businesses, residents say drug problems persist | CBC News People in Ottawa's Chinatown say little has changed since a new safer supply clinic operator took over in June. Some are considering leaving the neighbourhood, and others already have.

A reminder that the Ford govt closed the supervised consumption site in Chinatown and refuses to approve injectable opioid agonist treatment for people with serious addictions. Right now, private addiction clinics are proliferating and the whole community is suffering.

One of this church's parishioners was driving the wrong way down Percy Street almost every single day, often driving on the cycle-track and sidewalk. I personally saw him do this dozens of times. I followed him there one day and gave him a stern taking to. Haven't seen him do it since.

An alternate take: develop high-speed rail with frequent service between Windsor and Quebec city so that loads of these little short haul trips get eliminated from Pearson and we save the environment as a bonus @brenttoderian.bsky.social

Even though the changes to paid parking hours were passed unanimously by council, people have directed their anger at me alone. This is not ideology, it’s data. When there is less than 80% street parking capacity at any given time, we charge for parking. This INCREASES availability.

I have been relatively quiet on here this week, because my office has been dealing with a barrage of email from people who attend a particular church, upset about the addition of paid parking on Saturdays nearby. BTW: there 525 free parking spots within the 400m zone (and 202 spots within 200m).

My bus to Kanata was 8 minutes late leaving Tunney's, the start of the route. I watched the driver walk slowly from the building to the bus. Sure hope he had a good poop.
I arrived at my destination 20 mins later than I should have.

Not just being siphoned off, but being siphoned off to pay for parking of all things. As if we need to further subsidize parking in our city.

It doesn’t help when the city literally makes parking free on weekends to encourage people to drive and visit businesses, but transit remains fixed cost. The double standard is ridiculous

4. in the interim, Council should commit to improving the frequency and comprehensiveness of off-peak service to the extent that our bus fleet allows and restoring Line 1 train headways.

3. We need the buses we've ordered to arrive to stabilize peak service. When they do, Council needs to not just restore transit reliability but reverse recent cuts and commit to enhancing frequency, route comprehensiveness and affordability.

That's one thing terminally car brained people can't comprehend. Getting people off the road, benefits the die-hards that cannot conceive any other mode of transportation.

More frequency is definitely needed, both buses and trains.

Last night I waited 25 minutes at Tunney's at 6pm for any one of three "high frequency" routes.

Same in #Architecture; there are some AI tools of modest use in renderings and graphics (if used judiciously and with careful review) but don’t expect AI to do you detailed design, specs, shop drawings or field review. Architecture is a service the benefits from critical thinking and skill.
