I design packaging, occasionally draw, love horror fiction, and enjoy listening to, playing, and writing music.

Iโm having a hard time answering this in 300 characters. (238) One more try: I found Jade, the protagonist, one of the most real portrayals in fiction of a certain kind of teenager. I related to her. Beyond that, the story is well-paced, suspenseful, tragic, often funny, horrible, and beautiful.

He scoured medieval paintings and tapestries and studied museum pieces to make our pattern. Then we carved the poplar, cut, stained, and sewed the leather, and even found medieval-style cut nails so that my son could have his very own pair of pattens. We still need to add a loop for the strap.

A young boy playing a Parker Nitefly guitar.
And his work was a small part of so much beauty.
My son, seven years ago, playing my guitar:
What happens when people make things and then put them into the world is wonderful. The lives and the works that they inspire; their acts of creativity that spawn more acts of creativity. People can be pretty amazing!
I didnโt know Ken Parker, but he seemed like a pretty good guy.
For almost 30 years now, Iโve written many songs, Iโve played many more songs badly, and Iโve enjoyed the privilege of having this instrument in my life. Iโm sure that many, many others have similar stories.
06.10.2025 04:30 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Iโm not a good guitarist. A Parker is too nice of a guitar for me.
I played it. I loved it. I knew I shouldnโt buy it.
The store owner must have felt sorry for this kid, me, and he made me an offer that I couldnโt pass up.
Mike didnโt bring home a guitar that day, but I did.
A couple of years later, my friend Mike was going guitar shopping. He asked if I wanted to go with him. We drove to a shop in San Francisco because they carried the Schecter guitar that he had an eye on. They had some used gear, too. A used Nitefly, in fact.
06.10.2025 04:30 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Ken Parker died today. Among many other things, he helped to design the Parker Fly and Parker Nitefly guitars. Weird and wonderful works of art and engineering.
In the 90s, I saw Reeves Gabriels playing a Fly with David Bowie. That day, I found a new favorite guitarist and a new gear obsession.
The last 8 months precedent means we now have a system where the POTUS can demand any business practice as he wishes, or he will impose โemergencyโ Executive Orders to tariff their sales & destroy themโฆ
A free market is not possible in such conditions. It is servile.
I'm also supposed to be helping him make a jupon, but so far, that exists as a pile of as half-sewn muslin test pieces (and has since June).

I appreciate my son's belief in my ability to make things, but his optimism often overleaps my capabilities.
He's very interested in medieval history & fashion, so this Summer Iโve been recruited to help make pattens.
I'm pretty happy with the results considering I've never carved wood before!
I just started this one. Itโs been classic Christopher Golden so far. I really like the setup.
30.09.2025 10:00 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Book cover for The Reformatory by Tananarive Due. The design shows a small white building with two windows and a central door, set against a misty, purple-toned landscape. Tall, shadowy trees rise behind it, draped with hanging moss, fading into a vivid orange and pink sky. The title โThe Reformatoryโ appears prominently at the top in bold white letters with decorative flourishes, and the authorโs name, โTananarive Due,โ appears at the bottom in large orange text.
Iโm so late to this! The Reformatory by Tananarive Due is both beautiful and heartbreaking. Itโs terrifying and horrifying. Set in Jim Crow-era Florida, it tells the story of Robbie Stephens, a 12-year-old sentenced to six months in a boysโ reformatory thatโs rumored to be haunted.

If only someone had made a free downloadable comic which explained why this might happen and why his tariff policy is a ticking bomb.
