Val'dran's reaction to being startled depends a bit on whether he's in work mode or relaxing. In work mode, perhaps a sharp inhale, and going entirely still with Intangible Movement almost activated.

When he's relaxed, he can and will perk his ears sharply upward and outright hiss 😂

Amusingly enough, Val'dran essentially Did Not until *after* he got partners. It was never interesting nor in any way necessary.

Panic attacks and sketchy situations makes for hurt 🤕

He thinks agreeing to unsanctioned eye surgery was more foolish than the time he tried to block a sword with a hand and got his fingers lopped off, but really, panic is foolishness is pain 😔

Val'dran let Volo do the eye surgery despite thinking the man an idiot, because Val'dran is *also* an idiot when he's in the midst of an ongoing panic attack 😔

He *hates* it, hates his diminished vision even with the magic of the replacement, hates how obvious his foolishness is.

Val'dran considers Malis for a moment longer, then exhales in something of a huff.

"Don't leave shiny things out," he replies.

He does hand over the blade, allowing it to fall easily out of his sleeve.

"Don't--I'm not--I'm hardly going to get sepsis!"

Val'dran appears more baffled than offended at being batted with bandages.

It is an inconvenience! (And also Val'dran knows he's weak but he doesn't want to experienced as *too* weak, he's *fine*, he can handle it--)

Val'dran's expression doesn't change. "I've nothing to give you."

(They are absolutely staring at each other, and continuing to do so 😂)

If it gets Mal to actually *rest* for once, Val'dran finds this a very good arrangement ✨
