14 million people who bought a car on finance 6/4/2007 to 1/11/2024 could get compensation of several hundred pounds or more because they were deceived over the commission paid to the dealer. Plans announced by @TheFCA pay customers less than they lost to reduce firmsโ costs.

Very sad to hear of the death of the charming Sir John Gurdon, Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge, who in 2001 conferred an honorary fellowship on Nelson Mandela. At Eton, Gurdon was told heโd never make a scientist. He went on to win the Nobel Prize for physiology.

If you're in the UK, this weekend might be a great time to try buying a book from our bookshop on the UK bookshop dot org.
Buying through bookshop dot org supports indie bookshops and our affiliate links also may pay us a little sometimes. Win/win.

Nineteen years ago, on October 7, 2006, Anna Politkovskaya was assassinated by Putin's hitmen.
She was the first to tell the truth about Russia's mass crimes in Chechnya, which foreshadowed those in Syria, Ukraine, Africa and elsewhere. They could have been prevented.
Almost no one listened to her.

In the UK we now have some of the highest prices in Europe.
Just 10 years ago we were among the lowest, particularly for Food and Water.
In Europe the prices are high because taxes are high.
In the UK it is because billionaires profits are record.

Most gains were societal and came from putting the artists' improvements in wellbeing in โฌ terms

Jenrick was speaking from Aldridge, Brownhills an area that has upto 90% of white British residents. This makes it less mixed than the UK average and therefore little chance of social integration because of low diversity. But Jenrick didnโt see that. Is that racist?

Image of Keir Starmer and "Subco plans pushed back: Labour has been forced to step back from its controversial push for NHS subsidairy companies (subcos)."
Graphic of bulletpoints: "Why subcos were a problem: staff were moved out of the NHS often on worse contracts, some subcos proposals were motivated by tax advantages, not improvised services or patient care, risks creating a two-tier workforce."
Image of megaphone and " Some trusts attempted to proceed without proper consutation. In places like Dorset and Newcastle, staff resisted and balloted for strikes! Public and union pressure made it clear: outsourcing is not acceptable."
Image of doctor and "This signals a partial rollback of outsourcing policies and a win for staff and unions who resisted these moves. This is a step forward, but not the finish line. The fight to keep our NHS public and our staff safe continues."
๐ NHS staff win a small but important victory!
Swipe to see why SubCos are a problem, how staff fought back + what still needs to happen to keep our NHS fully public.
The fight isnโt over: we need full reversal of outsourcing + strong protections for NHS staff.

In a bold move, Robert Jenrick is set to unveil a controversial plan targeting what he calls 'activist' judges, at the Conservative Party conference.
I say this with the bluntness it requires: they will get people murdered if this continues. This is not just populism anymore either: itโs completely unhinged and a deliberate choice that does endanger lives. I am not saying this lightly at all.
