"Isn't it interesting: 1 am probably the most scrutinised figure in British politics, having been in public life for 32 years. Several books and thousas of stories have been written about me, but it is only now that my party is leading in the polls that these allegations come out. I will leave the public to draw their own conclusions about why that might be.
This is going to ring true to this guyβs idiot fan base because itβs largely true. Timing may not make any difference to the allegations but itβs true we are now getting a very late, very isolated bout of Noticing Things that could and should have been noticed many years earlier.

That's how the Tories handled the pandemic.

18.11.2025 12:06 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It doesn't take a genius to predict that it will result in some hurriedly employed, inexperienced people making poor decisions that wreck lives (think Windrush) and subsequent legal claims that drag on for years and cost Β£billions.
18.11.2025 11:05 β π 13 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0On a practical questions, how is the Home Office (underfunded, in crisis and can't even handle the current asylum claims) going to cope with reviewing every asylum seeker's claim every 2-3 years for 20 years? That's a MASSIVE logistical undertaking. Hugely expensive and complex.

How it's going:
"Quick, get more meat from the fridge! The tigers are back at the door, if we can feed them enough they'll go away!"

My summary - we're pretty stuffed because over the last couple of decades we've underinvested (austerity) and made stupid decisions (brexit). We need to think long term.

Worth remembering too the old truism that administration of means testing benefits can cost more than the actual benefits themselves. A similar situation could occur here. We could spend an absolute fortune checking and rechecking working immigrants while child poverty rises.
18.11.2025 08:52 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0One aspect to this, beyond the abhorrent morality of it... Asylum seekers are going to have their cases reviewed every 2.5 years I believe, for 20 years. That's a LOT of expensive admin. The Home Office is in utter chaos and we're trying to cut spending. How....?

Do you rely on others for support?
From the new Private Eye, out now.
As soon as a UK government of any party appoints a brown female politician as a Home Secretary my heart sinks because I know the only way she has reached that position is a willingness to cheerlead the most racist , cruel inhumane policies that no senior white male MP would dare to announce.
17.11.2025 08:52 β π 263 π 73 π¬ 11 π 4The Home Secretary says "we have become the destination of choice in Europe, clearly visible to every people smuggler and would-be illegal migrant across the world"
That is a factually untrue claim: the Home Office shows that the UK is fifth, getting 1/10 claims, while Germany gets 1/5 claims
This is awful beyond words. On behalf of men, I'm so sorry.
17.11.2025 21:05 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The whole point in talking about labour vote share, the "smug" point you can't see the point of, is that Starmer can't win in 2029 without broad support, no matter how well he "directs his resources". He could learn something from the 2017 and even 2019 elections about building broad support.
17.11.2025 12:51 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It certainly wasn't sold that way. 2020-24, Starmer was hellbent on rejecting the Corbyn era, anyone associated with it, anyone who spoke in favour of it, any policies associated with it. He drove people out of the party, reflected in the lower vote share. Worked in 2024, unlikely to work in 2029.
17.11.2025 12:47 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Then why did Starmer abandon every aspect of the 2019 manifesto? Despite promising to stand by it in 2020?
17.11.2025 09:27 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Based today's immigration announcements, it's clear labour are going to continue to lurch right. The result - a Reform govt in 2029 as progressives desert the party.
'Centrists' determination to play partisan politics rather than honestly assess the party's fortunes 2015-19 has partly led to this.
The entire narrative by labour and the media since 2020 is "Corbyn and his policies were toxic and deeply unpopular". This narrative is simply not bourne out by the facts (vote shares being part of that) and it's a narrative that's pushed labour to the right with disastrous results.
