Friends like these? Who I met through fandom? Adults with jobs and families and kids and responsibilities? Who read and write and draw and paint and knit and give to charity because of a fandom? Who have a family and identity and sense of who we are because of fandom? DEFINITELY be "in a fandom."

Having just watched Rhys do his Roomba bit the other night, my brain went to a weird place.

Mine seems to go back and forth with "feces/faces" and to be fair, I feel like either one works in this case.

I know it may sound silly, but I think it doesn't get said enough, especially during #kinktober : I LOVE when writers/artists properly tag their l work so I can avoid things I don't want to see. ๐Ÿฅฐ

just as those who have gone through war can reminisce of the solidarity they felt, the unity of vision and the selflessness, in this time of political and cultural war, cherish the others you are standing with, be fair unto your differences, and allow yourself to ask for help as you would help them

Also, doesn't this defeat the purpose of people blocking/muting certain terms that they don't want to see?

It hasn't happened yet, so I can't say how effective it'll be, but when I wanted to do a group watch of Rhys Darby: Big In Japan, I just picked dates and times, made a hashtag, and sent it out onto the timeline. Response has been pretty good so far. P.S. join us October 11 and 12.

Fun fact: It's called "Chicken" because the founders wanted to name it after the state bird, the ptarmigan, but couldn't agree on how to spell it.

Uugghhh, the Horrors (reaction to vaccine) have arrived. Woke up sore all over, particularly head, neck, and back, I feel congested even though I can breathe fine, and I cannot brain. Hopefully I have long enough to recover before work tomorrow.

It's available for free on YouTube and Tubi, so it's mostly just "hit play and tweet along" allowing for differences in internet speeds and when commercials are interjected, etc.

No, mate, I think you just CREATED the language. "Those necessary winter periods in our lives" is so accurate and goddamn beautiful and describes exactly what it is and how we feel. Fucking Shakespeare. We need to just hunker down and interact with ourselves for awhile . ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ’ฏโ™ฅ๏ธ

Yes, you're right. One form of boredom can lead to creativity (everything is the same, let's make something fun and new) vs. (everything is the same, why bother making something different?) But I think that the feeling of boredom/stasis/stagnation is important to recognize.

28.09.2025 01:23 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

It was really adult for something with a child protagonist, but it really influenced me. The wild imagination, the rebellion against authority, the love of the environment and wilderness, the juxtaposition of optimism with nihilism..ok, this comic goes WAY deeper once you start talking about it.

28.09.2025 01:19 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I would argue that "boredom" is an important trait. To paraphrase the great Terry Pratchett, "Well, today is the same as yesterday. What happens if I bang this sword into that skull?" But the ability to BE bored is also important; it lets us to sit with our thoughts with no outside interference.

I think it's interesting that I came into Calvin and Hobbes when I was about 4 or 5 years old, and so had NO expectations about media or culture. I just liked reading about a young kid who was weird and smart and didn't fit in and I felt seen, even though I didn't know what that meant.

28.09.2025 01:05 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

This makes me think of the Calvin and Hobbes comic where Calvin finds an injured baby raccoon and he and his parents try, unsuccessfully, to save it. It was so heartfelt and meaningful, pulling no punches, but how important a small thing can be.

As much as the current state of the Internet can suck, I LOVE that I can ask "how do I...eat this fruit/fix the dryer/make this meal/remove this stain/mend a tear/change my oil" and people will teach you to do this FOR FREE, just because they want people to know and they love sharing knowledge.

A fruit sliced in half sitting on a cutting board. The flesh is bright yellow. One half is fairly smooth; the other half is embedded with large brownish black seeds.

After watching a few videos, I was ready to eat my pawpaw. It. Is. DELICIOUS! The skin and seeds aren't edible, so cut it and twist like an avocado. The flesh is VERY soft, like a ripe peach. Descriptions mentioned tropical flavours, but I mostly got cantaloupe and banana. 8/10, would eat again.
