The beak is striking: long, think, curved, and coming to a sharp point. In this photo the beak is slightly open. The eye is tiny and completely dark. The head and back of the bird are an effective camo pattern of brown with white streaks. The underside is white. Details of the visible wing and tail are obscured by the branch the bird is perched on, but one flight feather is sticking out at an odd angle. The lower part of the image is taken up by a branch with brown to orange flakes of bark. Behind the bird, multiple long pine needles are hanging down.
