Black religion is not the black form of what’s commonly called religion, it cannot be reduced to religious institutions, rules, or churches. It’s an alternative sociality that’s more like poetry and music…it’s improvisational living in the midst of an anti-black world.

Being Christian is a way of being you…fully liberated.

Ironically you increasingly share in God’s own freedom as you yield to Jesus. Free to love yourself without heirarchy, free to love others without thoughts of self preservation, free to join others and become one without losing yourself in the process.

Quick thought on the axiom, “christian before black.”

What if we didn’t imagine identity in hierarchical ways? When one follows Jesus they become more of themselves, not less. Your story is not lost or placed in competition with God and others.

DEI could never replace what reparations was supposed to provide for black folks. The inherent limitations of DEI in an anti black society is magnified when reparations have been denied for so long.

They did not face the unique problems we’re facing and so though we can/should learn from them why would we skip over the black tradition and go 2000 years back as our primary source for wisdom?

It seems fitting that we would prioritize the radical black tradition & within that the black church for how we followers of Jesus today should engage the kind of political system we’re in, instead of say “the early church.”
