I can see this story finding its footing and landing, much like how I enjoyed aspects of Anduin's story when I pushed past "The Jailer made me evil!" but in the same respect I just cant get over the foundation being this flawed.

And then talking about how he was trapped between father and mother, dark and light, when the introduction of Alleria to void magic was in Legion and Arator has yet to even take a sippy of purple juice makes it ring hollow again. This story feels like a good idea but it needed heavy edit passes

"Elves wouldn't accept me" when it's directly shown a situation related to a shameful act being kept from him. "Humans feared me because I was too good at fighting" is just weird to frame around paladin powers rather than his blood elf traits (to the point that they desaturate his green eyes)

And likewise, the presentation of these are equally flawed in a bothersome way. His "caught between two worlds" narrative is something incredibly interesting, especially the angle of mixed cultural and racial backgrounds and the feeling like he doesn't belong to either, but once again framed wrongly

as a part of Anduin's suffering, which would be an interesting thing for a male character to explore, though one probably too complex for WoW.
Back on the subject of Arator, I feel like the animation has him holding a lot of themes that just haven't been built up in his narrative either.

In fact, he works best in relation to Sylvanas, but that probably means acknowledging his trauma through a different lens rather than jumping directly to "the harm I inflicted" to a more uncomfortable allusion that Sylvanas had with her characterization and really hammers home the lack of agency

He references "all these things I've done" but the narrative was so protective of him in a way that he fundamentally did not work as a foil to Arthas, just more of an allusion to him. This isn't to say that I don't believe he underwent trauma, just that it's presentation feels flawed.

Anduin's struggle with domination feels bad because not only is it very clear mind control without any hints that it was pulling from any preexisting negative foundations of his self, but also he didn't honestly do much because Blizz decided to not kill the Archon after that cutscene

The longer I think on the animation, the more I find myself feeling like Blizzard did make Arator into Anduin 2.0 and that's not a complement. Both of them feel like they're plowing ahead with a story on the basis of stuff that just hasn't been built up at all that they continue to gesture back at
