Two things:

1. This is over a simple attempted carjacking. It's nothing but a fascist power grab.

2. The Trump administration doesn't have enough federal law enforcement to police DC, patrol 7,500 miles of border, arrest 1,000 immigrants a day and occupy major cities. They cannot do all this.

They should cast him as Hannibal Lecter in yet another reboot of that story. Otherwise, let him drift into obscurity. Or fucking arrest him for drugging people without their consent.

I did at times like Discovery but it was mostly a slog. They really should’ve time-jumped in the first season I think. It freed the show up a bit to not have to be so married to the canon

Ah. And yet starting with season 3, Roddenberry wasn't very much involved anymore because of health. Coincidentally, that's when the show improved.

When in the run did Roddenberry die?

Is it usual that one person ends up running two (or more) federal departments at a time? I admit until Trump, I never really paid too much attention to who was doing what at, like, the IRS but now it's like watching a Jordan Peele horror movie.

TNG--especially early on--was sort of the same way. Only the silly was usually unintentional. I mean, the first two seasons are largely unwatchable for me.

I haven't watched this season, but I loved the previous ones. After the grim and bleak Discovery--heavily serialized--it was a breath of fresh air to get bright/shiny/fun ST again, with mostly-contained episodes. To me it has a nice mix of the silly and the dark, like TOS did.

I never understand the appeal of that thing. It looks so fucking stupid, and I can't imagine anyone taking it seriously. And yet, apparently they do.

Not surprised. I like a lot of Shearer's work--Spinal Tap, Simpsons--but maaaan is he a cantankerous, bitter, bitchy person and always has been. I tried listening to Le Show years ago and even the comedy was just... mean most of the time.

I still like it okay, but yeah, it's really time to wrap it up. Maybe do a final season, then a movie every now and then, but after so many years even the characters seem tired--I am convinced they replaced Shearer years ago, secretly, and Kavner's struggling with Marge's voice.

It's very efficient to fire and rehire people over and over.

Sonnenfeld has his own sense of style and camera-movement, but yeah, they look very Burtonesque so I'm sure you're not the only one thinking they're his movies. It's amazing to me that after, like, Big Fish, Burton completely lost whatever touch he had. The new Beetlejuice was so disappointing.

Sonnenfeld, not Soderbergh. I will forever confuse them.

The Addams Family movies were Soderbergh I think--they look Burtony but I don't think he had anything to do with them. Which makes 'Wednesday' all the more of a failure, in my opinion, bc Burton is riffing on an style that was an imitation of his own style.

The casting worked for me, but they didn't know how to write for that cast. They were still writing for the Angelica Huston/Raul Julia version of the family, so Luis Guzman has nothing to work with AS Gomez, and CZJ is just doing Angelica Huston. So I blame the writing and directing.
