I teach third grade math and science in Nashville, TN! I love to support students as they become flexible thinkers and problem solvers. I live for an “aha!” moment.

Looking for resources to refine my word problem instruction! My 3rd graders are largely multilingual and we support them in creating visual/symbolic representations that map onto equations. Having a hard time finding good books or articles for reference! #mtbos #iteachmath

Of course! We are big @triangleman.bsky.social fans. We have his books (BIG hit at family math nights) and use his images all the time!

It’s my favorite! And I found a great book - “Math Fact Fluency” - that I use to guide explicit strategy instruction and practice.

We had SUCH a wonderful time learning from Mr. Andrew about clouds, precipitation, storm safety, and more!

How do you approach word problem solving with your students? Looking for strategies to support upper elementary multilingual learners in making sense of word problems and selecting appropriate strategies. Books, articles, ideas all welcome! #iteachmath

I love Mathigon’s multiplication and division fluency practice (Amplify recently bought it, but it’s still free to access). Also love the book Math Fact Fluency for strategies/games to support fluency development in elementary. I teach third grade!

3 students with 8 paper plates and a pile of tiles. There is 1 tile on each plate.

Lesson 2 for the sort and 4 for the “these are _, these are not.” Always happy to chat quadrilaterals!

3rd! The card sort is IM too. Both are Unit 7. We don’t love the facilitation structure but we DO love the activities.

There is a “these are _, these are not” (inc. multiple types of quads, drilling down to squares) in Kendall Hunt’s IM. We do an open card sort with quadrilaterals, then the “these are rectangles, these are not”, then a closed sort of rectangles/rhombuses/squares to chat overlap in categorization.

Anyone have any creative ideas for building fluency and automaticity with addition and subtraction? We’ve got a good handle on multiplication and division but find our third graders are getting hung up on making tens and twenties! Willing to try anything to support automaticity! #mtbos #iteachmath
