Is it weird that I've never obsessed about lowering my taxes?

When I bought my house a few people advised me that I would pay higher taxes in the area I chose. And I was like, but I want to live where there is a library. Libraries make communities better.

Of an all green energy fleet, so you know, socialism.

I feel like something people are missing is Portland OR is 635,749 people. 1/3 the population of Chicago less than half the population of Manhattan. The protests are isolated around a single building. There won't even be breathing room for the amount of National Guard Trump wants to send.

Oh, I'm not generating documentation for my own code, but existing code with no or barely any documentation. I'm often tasked with having to work on an existing application on a framework that's like 6 versions behind. It's just a chore to get it up to speed, and I only have a sprint to do it.

Models seem less inclined to check themselves thoroughly than they are to check another model.

I have this 1 weird trick for documentation. I have Chat-GPT start it (which is always mostly wrong), then I tell Claude I had a different model generate this documentation but it's wrong and needs to be checked for accuracy. That gets me 95% of the way there.

Yeah, I don't know how vibe coders are making anything useful. I had to put in a ton of guardrails in the instructions to keep it from going nuts on the code base. In my initial experimentation I had to roll back a lot of changes. And the differences in accuracy between models are huge.

If you care more about the treatment of machines than human beings, you're on the wrong side.

I'm not against AI. I use it. But it is not sentient. It is software.

I'm somewhat comforted that even if it goes to hell here there is still the possibility of recreating it and being able to take everything with us. When Musk took over Twitter, my only option was to delete years of tweets and start over.

Same, I literally forget the people I block are even here. I feel like the demands for banning people is more symbolic when you can effectively ban people from your feed and community yourself.

If Kendrick has to clear his samples, then so does every white tech bro who wants to use AI. You cannot use someone else's content and claim it as your own for money. You must give compensation. You must give credit!

And oddly enough, there's a saying in my profession that real programmers are lazy. Meaning one of the things that drives us is finding ways to automate repetitive or tedious tasks. Prompt engineering will probably just become another layer.

I mean there was a whole series of events leading up to the Boston Massacre and wasn't at all an isolated event. Seizing ships, conscripting sailors and a customs officer killing a boy all contributed to it.

It wasn't orchestrated by the Patriots. But they did use it as propaganda. None of it would have happened had the British not sent a warship and several Army regiments over a boycott of tariffed goods. The Boston Massacre was the tipping point of unnecessary escalation.

Interesting. I've been professional programmer for about 20 years and only started using GitHub Copilot this year. I primarily use it to create documentation. What do you think constitutes a "real programmer?"

I work from home and was home all day, even got the "we tried" notice on the door. I looked back on the door bell camera and he just walked up, put the notice on the door and left. I don't get it.

This is a theme we keep repeating too. Until you see it for yourself, I think it’s hard to really understand how completely unnecessary and disproportionately violent the federal response has been.

How much is for fun, terror, or social media, I don’t know. A mix of the three for sure.

When I was a kid I had a Casio keyboard that could "record" in a way. It was very rudimentary and could only record one note at a time, in effect turning chords into random arpeggios. I would mash all the keys and see what randomly came out. I didn't consider that to be the same as composing.

It can be. I mean, it's a tool. It's like asking if using a paint brush is creative expression. It depends on if you're painting a mural or just painting a fence or something.

I think art is in the creative process, not the end product. I don't think DJs are musicians, but some do crossover. It's similar to the question we had when sampling music was new. Are you a musician if you're moving snippets of other's recordings around?

I'm not sure if it's because I'm a programmer in a different sector, but I use GitHub Copilot all day and don't think LLMs are alive or sentient in any way. None of my colleagues do either. It's just a tool to us.
