Collaborative worldbuilding and character creation for our Fabula Ultima game is up!
Get on it while it's new folk, this actual play will be a fun ride!
After being away for 2 months, today is as good a day as any other to go back to streaming!
Join me today as I get some productive pomodoros done, and talk about some recent RPG experiences, and plan how i will approach my next projects & streams!

Thinking of going back to streaming my #TTRPG design work.
I miss the social pressure, and when some people show up to watch, its always good to discuss things over.
Also I have a ton of solo RPGs that I desperately want to play, and i would love to share all that online.
New Quinns Quest video? Stop everything, sit down and watch it.
Time and place for everything, and that is NOW and in the BIG screen.
Excited to know how he covers Chris Mcdowall's Mythic Bastionland.

Photo of a section of the Break! rules describing the Pocket Device mentioned. Underline there are mentions of a JRPG called Akenia Adventure!! and saying that it "can be referred to as a Beginner's Tome for queries regarding the ancient ruins and creatures of Outer World
๐งต
In Break!, the in-game world is canonically the one from a retro jrpg
One of the character options if you are isekaied to have basically a "pocket device" (with magical unlimited power), and it has copy of that game.
The rules say you can use that JRPG as an tome of the world's secrets!
The Isekai trend might be overdone in anime but @thaumavore.blue highlighted the potential for matching player and character knowledge in his latest video, by going through Break!
youtu.be/g5y6x0T4GLo...
I want to highlight the opposite approach: the isekaied with "meta" knowledge, somehow!

I'm sure this wasn't meant to undermine non-D&D RPGs, it might not have been bad phrasing at all, just bad interpretation on my part.
As I said I'm happy indie games are being talked about, at all, by bigger voices.
"Old man yells at clouds" moment over.
๐งต
I understand the sentiment. And as you play more games you will understand more about what you prefer and why, no doubt.
But the phrasing seems to imply the main reason you play other games is to try to improve your preferred one only, instead of, you know, to play and enjoy it as a game.
๐งต
๐งต
Finally, I liked what she said about about "playing an RPG like a game designer", being critical of the rules.
However then at the end she said "you don't play other RPGs to replace the one you like, but to understand why you like the one you like"...
That didn't sit well with me.
๐งต
๐งต
Having never played it (take this with a boulder of salt), a typical adventure centered on combat, doesn't seem to be the sort of game where GR8 would shine.
Especially not with the same table dynamics as D&D when it comes to rolls, effects of success and consequences for failure.
๐งต
๐งต
THAT BEING SAID
- and I will be that annoying guy that will undermine the message of the video a bit, so i'm sorry in advance -
by her description, she seems to have played it looking for the same sort of session and experience one would have with D&D.
๐งต
๐งต
Ginny Di's newest video, on the Gr8 system (elisheva-games.itch....) is an example of an indie game being highlighted and a healthy approach and commentary to the "try other systems" discourse.
I like that other systems are bing brought up at all, in a channel as large as hers.
๐งต
Glad to see that with #daggerheart coming out, a lot of #DnD creators are starting to cover it.
Hopefully this marks a change in the non-d20 #TTRPG coverage by the bigger names in the hobby, and we might even start seeing indie RPGs reaching heights I wouldn't imagine a few months ago.
๐งต
I've began reading Jon Peterson's "Playing at the World" and I'm getting a bunch of new insights and a great history lesson!
It's a bit dense but it's been a good read so far.
I might share some things I've been reading here and there to share the knowledge.
You might have watched DnDShorts' great video on the 1976 #DnD rules for playing women (feat. @ginnydi.com) and found it shocking (rightfully so).
But if you haven't seen the rules themselves... It gets much weirder. Watch @zigmenthotep.bsky.social 's breakdown of them!

My thoughts exactly. The mere fact that Darrington Press does diverse stuff with different rules systems is reason enough to be excited.
Now that apparently WotC is losing known and talented designers to DP, I'm curious to see how that might impact the industry in general.
Well this is a twist i honestly didn't think of

The first version of CBR+PNK had just came out and i had the pdfs printed.
I told them about it and about how RPGs worked. They were quick to grasp it and wanted to try it out!
It was messy, but we had a lot of fun and it was a great session!
To this day, one of my favorite TTRPG nights.
๐งต
๐งต
I was already at the place though, so i decided to stay, checking my notes and other games of mine.
Two strangers, who were just checking out the store and never played any #TTRPG, came in and we started talking.
๐งต
๐งต
I used to carry a few oneshot RPGs with me everytime i went to my FLGS, and CBR+PNK was one of them.
I distinctly remember one night a couple of years back, my regular Mausritter session (another great game, by @losing.games) was canceled as most players couldn't show up.
๐งต
๐งต
CBR+PNK is a fast and elegant #TTRPG based on the #FitD system about #cyberpunk mercenaries and rebels on their last job.
Great for dramatic and action-packed oneshots, for veteran and new players alike.
I've played it a few times with different groups and we always have a blast.
๐งต
I love CBR+PNK by Emanuel Melo, and am glad it not only got the spotlight by @thaumavore.blue , but is also growing with a successfull second kickstarter (still ongoing) with CBR+PNK: OVERLOAD (www.kickstarter.com/projects/myt...), being published by @mythworks.bsky.social

To parrot your answer, every group should have an instigator, the one that is at least a little bit reckless, who plays their character like a stolen car.
Aside from that, the one who will re-focus the group after going on a tangent is a must, be them the GM or a player.
No, thank YOU for the great videos! Keep going!

Their softspoken and structured reviews do a great job highlighting the appeal and technical elements of the different games, and i look forward to getting to know new games through them!
We need to be able to tell if something is written by AI or not.
This video gives a few clues how to tell and got me looking more carefully at text I read from now on.

These methods aren't evergreen, and in no way they translate to every language, but it's a start.
meme of a frog with a suit, with its face replaced with the 12 sided goblin mascot. Caption reads: gentleman, it is a great pleasure to announce the 12 Sided Goblin is now on instagram
Becuase i've got way too many pretty #TTRPG books and goodies i want showcase, i decided to also do so on instagram, and dip my toes into that cursed platform.
Here's to hoping that thing doesn't destroy my dopamine and turns this d12 into a wretched d4.

The #TTRPG scene in China is something i knew nothing about but always assumed it existed simply because of the sheer scale of the market.
Weird Place made a video exploring that exact topic and i was surprised to learn it is much more niche and controlled than i thought.

Of course, D&D concerns itself with some very specific pillars that influence what sort of stories it is more suited for.
This is why I urge everyone to browse around and see what other #TTRPG have to offer! Each is made with a specific type of story structure, genre or vibe in mind!
