OK. Personal breaking point. This somehow, earnestly, both sides "the doubt of judges" and "open lying and defiance of court orders by the justice department" as co-contributors to the erosion of "healthy court function". Holy pitch-bot. www.nytimes.com/2025/08/04/u...

Costco in England (in 2006) - 1540 Tetley tea bags - Amusingly, unlike the US stores, this location outside of London would sell you a single jar of Skippy peanut butter instead of two shrink-wrapped together.

Canceling transmission lines will raise electricity prices and raise emissions. Canceling transmission lines enhances corporate monopoly power and profit. Canceling transmission lines is climate denial.

For everyone who grew up around there, this is largely a due to "precision farming". Back in the day, the edges and corners were very stunted, now seed density and fertilizer are adjusted so all the plants receive similar conditions. #couldabeenthirdgenJohnDeereemployee

Hoping that someone can help me identify this location from Andrew Davis' Stony Island (1978) - the apartment of Harold the appalachian sax player. It's supposed to be in Uptown, but not sure if another location is standing in. A few clues in the next post . . .

Contrast that with the Petroleum inputs to transportation. Roughly 80% end up as Rejected Energy due to the inefficiency of combustion engines. Indeed, a largely electric/renewable US economy would require substantially less input in the first place. (H/T @jessedjenkins.com)

This is almost certainly a misleading framing of this kind of Sankey diagram: flowcharts.llnl.gov/sites/flowch... - 3% of "primary energy production" comes from renewable sources. Nearly all of it becomes actual used "Energy Services". Losses are very low.

That "omg Musk is on ketamine" story is not only a year (at least) behind public Internet knowledge, it's also an example of access journalism getting played by its sources yet again.

Printing what anonymous insiders tell you to, and when, makes you a pawn in politics, not a journalist of it.

I was a regular public radio listener for many years before I realized how common this is. It's one of those things that is difficult to un-see/un-hear once you know it is there. But I do feel like, when done well, and if you're not already sensitized to it, it can work.
