i’ve been appreciating everyone’s Brian Wilson posts today and have also just been thinking about how sick the band name the Beach Boys is. the more i mull it over, the better it gets

"82 year old dies" is in a sense hardly news at all. "singular genius who transformed popular culture dies" is news, but also not uncommon. but "one-time symbol of bravura youth culture, trapped for decades by the fallout of the sixties, who fought free and became a widely beloved elder, dies," phew

but they didn't go. they pulled through, and for both of them, in different ways, that very longevity, the ability to celebrate a new sense of freedom, of (fractured) wholeness, of outliving the demons was what they came to stand for, as much as the original peace love & joy of the transistor era

part of what makes the one-two of sly and brian slipping away land so hard is that there was a very real sense in which they both could have gone in say 1986 and no one would have been very surprised or felt like there was a missing chapter. the classic work spoke for itself. rock takes its toll.

I think the most basic freedom that all of us can have at any time is not to become the people the ruling class wants us to be: self-centered, incurious, petty, racist, paranoid, uninterested in anything but consumption and not being asked to think about anything that matters.

more equal societies are less free, from this perspective, because they lessen the specialness (& thus the freedom) of the rich individual. it's all about the potential freedom of the individual to rise above their peers, & never the society considered as a whole

i have learned that way too many americans see the concept of 'freedom' simply as the potential to be rich and privileged, even if they aren't, & not things like freedom from dying from a preventable illness if you're poor, or being imprisoned for minor crimes, or persecuted by the police, etc

woke is when stuff costs less

Too much to talk about with this shot. So many talented people, who worked so hard to bring it to life. I’ll simply say, this shot was a real treat to do. A true cherry on top. I’m forever grateful to have had a hand in it.

I sadly didn't get to draw much of Petunia in the film, but in the few scenes I did, she was so fun to draw. Tried to channel her cuteness as much as possible. Candi was absolutely PERFECT in the role too!

‘COYOTE VS ACME’ has been officially saved by Ketchup Entertainment, who bought the film for $50M

They plan to give the film a worldwide theatrical release in 2026.

I saw the new Looney Tunes movie tonight and I was blown away! A beautiful, hilarious work of art made by many talented people at their absolute best. Had to bust out the pen and paper because I was so inspired. Go see this movie if you love fun!
