Today I lost an NIH grant training clinicians to do research about intimate partner violence with perinatal women.

More women are murdered in the perinatal period than die of obstetric complications.

I didn't just lose a grant. We lost an entire cohort of people building careers to prevent that.

NHS organisations recognise that we can attract staff from other countries with our pay and conditions, but we cannot afford to keep ignoring the mass exodus of staff from the UK for *exactly the same reasons*
To retain staff the NHS needs to be internationally competitive as an employer.

And even meaningful and comparatively well paid work can take a catastrophic toll on your mental health - just look at the rates of suicide among health professionals

I mean being broke isn't good for your health (mental or physical), but that doesn't make work (certainly not all work) good for your health

I often wonder about the employment history of those who insist work is great for your health.

When "everybody got measles", infancy mortality rate was enormous. Even my grandma who was born in 1912 lost 3 out of 6 children because of preventable (nowadays) deseases.

Yes the NHS WRES makes for depressing reading, we need to do so much better, in nursing, but in all of health and social care.

Also though, perhaps we should recognise NHS and care work as the skilled and necessary work that it is, and pay staff more than £38,700

The person on the Today programme discussing this was confidentvdaying that "many nurses" earn £38,700 or more - only nurses on the higher part of band 6 earn this much. Many nurses remain on band 5 their entire career.

Not just a childhood illness! Only case of mumps I've ever seen was in an adult, and most adults 40+ have not been vaccinated against mumps specifically

And despite what this guy says care work is skilled work, it's not easy! Care work is physically, cognitively and emotionally draining. It's probably not a suitable role for someone just returning from long-term unemployment with no previous care experience.

Abuse scandal after abuse scandal tells us why happens if anyone does care work. The vulnerability of service users is enormous, and the potential for harm is massive.

What I need young people to understand is that, while it may be fine and normal for them to move in herds while dressed in 1990s fashion and haircuts, for me as a 40-year-old woman it is like passing through a cloud of ghosts

Smacking an adult is assault, smacking a child is also assault, we need the law to reflect this.
