I would love to!
15.11.2025 12:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We know public health is a significant part of the future of the NHS - but placements are in short supply.
Simulation helps us bridge that theory practice gap and create nurses fit for the future.
Incredibly privileged to present my poster on a simulated public health placement for student nurses at #ASPiH2025 earlier this week

23.03.2025 09:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Today I lost an NIH grant training clinicians to do research about intimate partner violence with perinatal women.
More women are murdered in the perinatal period than die of obstetric complications.
I didn't just lose a grant. We lost an entire cohort of people building careers to prevent that.
The Health and Social Care Committee has launched a new inquiry on the first 1000 days of life, the period from a childβs conception to age 2 β widely recognised as a critical period for development which fundamentally shapes long-term health, well-being, & life outcomes.

NHS organisations recognise that we can attract staff from other countries with our pay and conditions, but we cannot afford to keep ignoring the mass exodus of staff from the UK for *exactly the same reasons*
To retain staff the NHS needs to be internationally competitive as an employer.

Thank you to everyone who has supported so this has reached 98% of MPs! It takes less than a minute to tell your MP to support nursing and patient safety
19.03.2025 11:26 β π 5 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0And even meaningful and comparatively well paid work can take a catastrophic toll on your mental health - just look at the rates of suicide among health professionals
19.03.2025 11:52 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I mean being broke isn't good for your health (mental or physical), but that doesn't make work (certainly not all work) good for your health
19.03.2025 11:52 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I often wonder about the employment history of those who insist work is great for your health.

17.03.2025 19:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0"An NHS doctor dies by suicide every three weeks. A nurse attempts suicide almost every day. Even during the height of the pandemic, as the virus ravaged frontline healthcare workers, government data revealed that NHS staff took more sick days for mental health reasons than for Covid."

13.03.2025 17:52 β π 84 π 16 π¬ 6 π 3When "everybody got measles", infancy mortality rate was enormous. Even my grandma who was born in 1912 lost 3 out of 6 children because of preventable (nowadays) deseases.
12.03.2025 05:44 β π 313 π 19 π¬ 2 π 0Yes the NHS WRES makes for depressing reading, we need to do so much better, in nursing, but in all of health and social care.
10.03.2025 18:25 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Also though, perhaps we should recognise NHS and care work as the skilled and necessary work that it is, and pay staff more than Β£38,700
10.03.2025 11:40 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The person on the Today programme discussing this was confidentvdaying that "many nurses" earn Β£38,700 or more - only nurses on the higher part of band 6 earn this much. Many nurses remain on band 5 their entire career.

And despite what this guy says care work is skilled work, it's not easy! Care work is physically, cognitively and emotionally draining. It's probably not a suitable role for someone just returning from long-term unemployment with no previous care experience.
10.03.2025 07:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Abuse scandal after abuse scandal tells us why happens if anyone does care work. The vulnerability of service users is enormous, and the potential for harm is massive.
