I don't doubt that Trumpism will soon crumble and things will return to a seeming normal. But what worries me is whether we will again make the mistake of offering impunity to these degenerates because if so, we're just waiting around for fascism that sticks.

While I agree with Quinta, I think that it's typical for people to struggle to deal with radical paradigm shifts. People are trying to understand what is happening now through the lens of what happened in the US before, even under Trump I. But that doesn't produce clear insights.

There are two answers to steep & broken terrain:

If you have not already, Find some sort of light easy exercise you find fun. Walking. Biking. Zumba. It should be eays and fun enough that the idea of doing it multiple times a week on a consistent basis is a happy one. Shouldn't feel like a chore.

Not to be glib, but the way you will know we have reach civil war is when both sides are shooting at each other on some mass scale. It won't look like armies on the battlefield, no, but it will look like guerilla warfare/urban insurgencies across the United States. You'll know it when you see it.

What I would argue is that this isn't civil war as we would understand it yet, it's basically Bleeding Kansas, an actual honest to goodness war/conflict being waged in small scale which could be a prelude to the real thing if the fundamental issues causing the conflict are not resolved.
