D(e)ad is an indy charmer about a woman whose father's ghost refuses to haunt her. The comic dialogue snaps. I saw it with an appreciative audience, and now I'm a fan of writer/star Isabella Roland.

It screens again at Metro Cinema on Thursday. Recommended.

They’re also showing the sequels this month, albeit at less attractive times.

I get to see this one again on Wednesday, this time in the cinema.

It’s not objectively a good film, but it has some iconic images and some hilarious gamer elements.

I hope against hope for a Swordsman trilogy screening this coming year.

Disappointing.

We've known for ages that opening an essay with a direct quote from the dictionary is a loser move. Now people are doing it with AI summaries.

Hotel Costiera is a fresh cross between The A Team and Leverage. Beautiful locations on the Amalfi Coast and a winning cast elevate the okay writing.

Recommended especially for RPG teams.

I've fallen back into my old habit of making single-serving friends while standing in queue, which made me pine for SIFF. An adorable young Korean couple took seats beside me, and we chatted about favorite directors until the emcee took the stage.

It was awesome. I love a full house with a laughing audience. Here's hoping we see more of those this autumn.

Earlier this year, I thought Kurosawa Kiyoshi's Cloud was the craziest anti-capitalist absurdist dark comedy I could see. Park Chan-wook said "hold my beer" and unleashed No Other Choice.
