No. Academia is a prestige economy in which scientific leadership chose to make journals the currency & Gold OA was deemed 'the way'. Publishers just cashed in; you don't have to pay $10K

Itโs easy. The secret is *flow-based-scheduling*. Here are its three core strategies for new academic parents:
Sleep when the baby sleeps
Cry when the baby cries
Publish when the baby publishes

I spent a long time saying bagels were overrated and this Jewish friend of mine from NYC was so outraged he actually came up here with bagels to prove me wrong and much as it would have been hilarious to keep the bit going, he was right, those things are just a different experience entirely

Hi, this is Meg Barnette, Brad's wife.
While escorting a defendant out of immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE.
This is still developing, and our team is monitoring the situation closely.

Excited to share our latest story in Nature. When people talk about inefficiencies in academia, it's because the MBAs enforce auditing as control rather than letting people work.
OK, read this thread. And then, perhaps, like me, you will think: WTAF?
Yes, "Uncertainties over the science budgets for next year, coupled with cancellations of billions of dollars of already hard-won research grants, is [sic] causing an exodus of researchers from the U.S."
And the solution?.../1

This is why it's so damaging for the media to keep calling illegally withholding congressionally appropriated, contractually obligated funds as "cuts", which implies some rational and legitimate budgetary process.
