A Preventable Winter Crisis: Why Clinically Vulnerable People Need Your Help

NEW CVF BLOG - Screenshot of top of page A Preventable Winter Crisis: Why Clinically Vulnerable People Need Your Help

โš ๏ธThe NHS once protected us.

Now, millions of Clinically Vulnerable people are being told we donโ€™t qualify for a Covid vaccine - even as new variants spread.

This is a dangerous, preventable mistake.

Community Pharmacy England

Q

Pharmacy teams have reported major issues to us over the last two days related to large numbers of patients booking COVID-19 vaccinations via the National Booking System (NBS) who are not eligible for the vaccine this winter.

We are working with NHS England to try to address this unacceptable situation and to get more NHS communications issued to help people understand whether they are eligible for the vaccine.

In the meantime, we have created three posters that pharmacy teams can use to help explain about vaccine eligibility this winter:

@rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social this was a terrible idea.

Not only will the NHS struggle this autumn / winter, but people will suffer and die unnecessarily.

It isn't too late for a U-turn!

Freshers' flu: Why is it so hard for students to dodge? It's not the actual flu, and it's rarely serious, but when thousands of students arrive on campus they bring a cocktail of viruses.

Well, part of the reason is because Universities and educational establishments in general do absolutely nothing to ensure clean, safe, healthy indoor quality, so it's not just students having a party but airborne infections. No mention of that or the current Covid wave www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Why investment in clean indoor air is vital preparation for the pandemics and climate emergencies to come Unchecked airborne infections cost billions in lost health and productivity each year โ€“ likely more than the cost of better ventilation to clean up indoor air.

It's also vital to reduce the damage to public health, economy and education still being caused by the current pandemic. theconversation.com/why-investme...

Hugely proud that our Founder & Director Dr Sally Witcher is be part of this incredible initiative. Keen to know what your priorities would be for action on healthy indoor air. There's a long way to go to get even health, social care & education settings to take this seriously here in Scotland & UK.

Single-cell multi-omics show disruption of blood and airway T-cells in pulmonary long COVID Background: Approximately 10% of individuals who recover from COVID-19 experience residual respiratory symptoms impacting their quality of life, but the mechanisms behind pulmonary long COVID (PLC) ar...

Vancouver researchers studied 30 people and found that pulmonary long COVID is linked to an overactive T cell response in the blood and lungs along with higher autoantibodies.

This points to lingering airway inflammation driven by autoimmunity.

This is disgraceful 'reporting' by @bbcnews.bsky.social Six years ago it was not normal for the majority of the population to be experiencing what present as early symptoms of dementia due to cognitive impairment. Surely that's what they should be investigating and reporting on.

When scientists say things like, "opening a window lowers the risk of transmission by 38%", where do they get these numbers? Well, they use airborne transmission models.

In my latest explainer video I walk through the history of these models, what they do, and what the don't.

In a 4-year follow-up of 816 COVID patients, 29% developed long COVID per WHO criteria. This finding matches higher global prevalence estimates and highlights the enduring burden of post-COVID illness.
