... a book's perceived production value. In my own work, I tend to use it judiciously: in part because it's more work and I am lazy, but also because I want each piece to bring something new/fulfill a purpose, not just be there as decoration.

This might sound weird coming from an illustrator (or as I like to put it, "sometime doodles guy"), but I think most ttrpgs need less, not more illustrations. Firstly, I don't think they're central to the game, and secondly I object to it being treated as either layout filler or as a way to raise...

Writing d100 Names/Nicknames tables for my "hell settlers" thing. Is it taking me a godawful long time? Yes. Is this the kind of thing a chatgpt could handle in a sec? Sure. But that's the kind of craft you get from me.

Over the years, when people learned that I'm into ttrpgs, they tried to sell me on boardgames. Yeah, nah. Wargames, then? No, not really. What about solo games, you'll like that! Nope, sorry. What can I say, the heart wants what the heart wants, and this heart only wants the pen and the paper.

Designers: to not make the mistake of letting playtesting become designing by commitee. At the end of the day you gotta trust your own judgement, otherwise you'll drive yourself crazy.

I have an open note on my phone where I put down random ideas, real lymbic brain stuff. I don't remember writing half of what's in there. The last few entries read:
