If you have to dial the whole number enough times, you remember it. For a long time you didn't need to dial the area code if you lived in the same area as well, so it was shorter. My grandmother used to use words to help, like Ortega-859, you would only need the first 4 letters made into numbers.

Better pain scale: 0 No pain, 1 Hardly notice pain, 2 Notice pain but does not interfere with activities, 3 Sometimes pain is distracting, 4 Definitely distracts but can do normal activities, 5 pain interrupts some activities, 6 Hard to ignore pain and starting to avoid normal activities, 7 Pain is the focus of attention and prevents normal activities, 8 Awful pain it makes it hard to do anything, 9 Pain is unbearable and cannot do anything really, 10 Pain is as bad as it could be and nothing else can pull focus from the pain.

I feel like this could be useful for so many--too often I try to compare pain to previous pain, and that doesn't really help a medical professional understand what that means for my life. This type of scale could make all the difference.

My reading for January, all of these were good and interesting, but They Called Us Enemy by George Takei is a fantastic memoir about his time in a Japanese internment camp during WWII. A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine is also a great sci-fi/political story, I'm already reading the 2nd book.

Photo comparison of the Orion Nebula with an 1881 telescope and a 2011 telescope. You can see colors and significantly more detail with the newer telescope, although in the older version you can see the shape of the nebula and several stars and planets.

I'm impressed they could still see a lot of detail in the one from 1881! Plain old cameras were very new then.
