It’s 11 pm here in the west coast, 2 am in DC, and midnight mountain time. My 68-year-old senator is reading Longfellow. “It’s about ringing alarm bells.”

I just tuned into this livestream. He’s been going for 7 hours and is talking about the importance of having independent journalists covering the war in Afghanistan. I appreciate this. Thank you, Senator.

Absolutely irate at NYT story that includes this quote, does NOT explain what a Gleason score or grade group means, but DOES include 3 grafs of irrelevant BS about the Democratic Party. I get that breaking news is hard but this is basic journalism, and the AP story includes that info. Inexcusable.

I have spent a lot of time in authoritarian states and dictatorships. They all had elections. They all had legislatures. It isn’t institutions or elections they make a democracy, it’s accountability.

Maybe Dems can use their email/text annoyance structure to blast put a message that really matters rather than just to fundraise

reasonable people can quibble about how USAID does some of this, but that’s not what’s on the table—the question on the table is stark: do we want the might of the US state to provide people w/aid & assistance, or do we just want it to crush people? Do we want to protect the people who provide aid?
