Just this guy, you know?

The guisers (and Guys) may be done, but we're still definitely in orange-leaves-and-decorative-gourds season in Scotland. Take a break from the grind with some dangerously tasty (and just plain dangerous, frankly) hot chocolate.

As we stare down yet another Monday, struggling to wrap our heads around why it's dark at 5pm, what if there was some magic spell we could intone to reframe things a little more positively?
Or, in other words, How are you doing today?

I get asked about how I used to do lists and task managers to stay organised. I could never answer well as things kept changing. Things still keep changing, but I have found an answer:
I've stopped trying to stay organised; I'm getting more done than ever.

Sometimes, mornings are things you just need to let happen. Especially when they're armed and have that look in their eye.

The irony of my longest article in ages tackling the subject of nobody having "enough time" is not lost on me.
It might even be part of the point, especially as I eventually propose a solution :)

Who are the people most successful in persuading writers to ditch substack? What would make them pitch Pagecord as an alternative?
26.09.2025 19:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Curious: I have a bunch of things Iβm keen to write about, but wonder what people would be most interested in hearing my take on?
26.09.2025 10:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Saying it now: I like iOS 26 in general but THE BEST feature is call screening. Absolutely changes my relationship with phone calls.
26.09.2025 09:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yeah, the ownership is important. Just find Iβm constantly tinkering, and even with obsidian sync I still find things like shortcuts often fail when I trigger them as the sync will happen during or after the shortcut. Iβve lost data that way, which doesnβt inspire confidence.
24.09.2025 07:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not that this has stopped me before, of course!
23.09.2025 21:58 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Disappearing back down the notemaking app rabbit hole. Again. Obsidian is such a power tool, but mobile sync is just too hit and miss. Giving @bearnotesapp.bsky.social another shot. It really is the prettiest app, and like Things, it may be that simplicity beats options every time.
23.09.2025 20:58 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I remember getting the white and silver iPhone X when it came out and it was just so pretty. I may still have it kicking around somewhere. The Air has similar vibes: looks like the future.
Really have no need to upgrade though!
Love this. The pundit arc so far seems to have been
Before: who is the Air for? It makes no sense.
After: I have bought an Air
Outrage is powerful. This will get traction only because of people who are outraged that so few people know the real statistics.
23.09.2025 11:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As someone who has deliberately disengaged with as much of that side of social media as possible, I knew something was up but had no emotional strength to go digging to find out precisely what.
Thank you for writing so I could catch up, but truly, deeply sorry you had to.
What a shitshow.
Web apps are fine, just surprised thereβs still nothing native.
18.09.2025 15:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Todo lists have always been my gripe on Linux too. Thereβs just such a huge gap. It bugged me when I was deep in OmniFocus, and it bugs me now Iβm deep in Things.
And even if youβre using org-mode, at that point youβve stopped using Linux anyway as emacs is a different operating system π€£
Hah, Iβm pretty addicted to storing all my posts in markdown files, BUT maybe if thereβs a podcast compatible feed optionβ¦? ;)
17.09.2025 11:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Must admit Iβm loving how distressingly straightforward it is to slap an audio player on a web page these days!

10.09.2025 15:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So this week's Shore Leave is back in Edinburgh, and will likely(*) be in Brew Dog, Lothian Road. I'll be there from about 6pm with my book and a pint. Come chat!
(*) assuming it's not too busy and I can score a table. Any change of venue, I'll post here as soon as I can with an update :)
