The other three who were removed were lawyers, the Judge Advocates General for the Army, Navy and Air Force. Why them? They are not involved in any conflicts. Why are they as important as the Joints Chief of Staff? The answer is that this is part of a broader pattern where Trump has been targeting General Counsels and other lawyers across government. It has long been part of his second-term strategy for governing.

Having loyalist lawyers in place will make it much harder for military officers to resist Trump’s orders. Hegseth has been critical of military lawyers constraining officers in the field. In practical terms, this might result in a legal blessing and greater practice of what is commonly regarded as war crimes. Hegseth’s selection for Secretary of Defense reflects lobbying of Trump to pardon convicted war criminals. Now it is simply less likely they would be prosecuted. Military loyalists lawyers can also greenlight the use of military as a domestic police force, by invoking the Insurrection Act.

Why is half the military purge focused on lawyers?
Two reasons:
*Hegseth has complained about lawyers restricting the military, and has defended war criminals
*Broader pattern where Trump is targeting General Counsels, assuming that loyalists will offer a legal rationale for illegal actions

They’re doing exactly what they said they were going to do and this is going to have a multigenerational impact. Everyone should be concerned about the attacks on NOAA and the NWS.

I just spoke with an attorney who works with the NOAA, and there is a valid path to shut down what's happening. The agencies are compromised, the IGs are fired, etc.

We need a state AG (she said NY would be best) to file a lawsuit seeking an injunction using state and federal cybersecurity laws.

Key Republican source who lied to the FBI about the Bidens receives prison sentence Alexander Smirnov may not be a household name, but his prison sentence represents a stunning fiasco for some prominent Republicans in Congress.

"He was the Republicans' star witness. Sean Hannity’s Fox News show ran with his claims in at least 85 separate segments last year. The Republicans’ entire Biden conspiracy theory was based on his claims..."

Something I’ve stressed in talks and interviews since the election is that we will not have restored the peaceful transfer of power in the U.S. until a Republican president willingly hands power to a Democratic president.

The Choices I’ve Made From Marc | Since the election, media figures and outlets have followed suit β€” each moving gradually towards obedience to Trump and then suddenly.

Like others, I fear the threat of government retribution, political vengeance and an angry right-wing mob. But I know that giving into it will only strengthen Trump and undermine the future of our democracy. Trump wants us to be scared. He wants us to give up β€” gradually and then suddenly.
