11 September Lt Archibald William Robertson Don of the 10th Bn Black Watch died of Maleria and he was buried in Salonika.

Archibald had intended to train in Medicine after graduating Trinity College, Cambridge but war intervened #WW1 #History #HistoryMatters

107 yrs ago Horatio Ellis Evans killed in Salonika, Greece. He was treated at the Hospital in 1916 & awarded the Military Medal.
On recovering, re-posted overseas & killed in action - 17th September 1918

Waiting off Gallipoli Sgt Richard Ward wrote in his diary on 25 April 1915: β€œThis I have no doubt will be the greatest day of our lives.”

Once landed Pte Joseph McBride pulled out his Kodak and snapped the first New Zealanders coming ashore.

The CWGC commemorates 377 women who died in The Great War. The last to die was Cicely Pope, a VAD Nursing Sister who was serving in Serbia as part of the Scottish Women's Hospitals organisation. She died on 25th June 1921 and is buried in Nis.

Remembering on #InternationalNursesDay eight nurses, who died on New Years Eve 1917 when their troop ship HMT Osmanieh struck a mine and sank in under ten minutes, taking 200 personnel with her.

All eight are buried side by side in Alexandria (Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.

After #Mesopotamia Lt Dudley C Stewart-Smith, was transferred to 1st Bn Black Watch & sent to France; he started to keep a diary on 18 April 1918, the day he was captured at Givenchy & became a Prisoner of War
