Arg… this made me go into a rabbit hole.

The US allow corn syrup in their canned w c! I don't think that is allowed in the EU. And it would have to be marked GMO if containig any GMO corn (which. I think, all US corn syrup do).
I generally like EU food standards!

I had to look Victoria Sponge up. Looks delicious.

Figured the page I found is American when it mentioned "handmade whipped cream "! What horror is that? Do people regulary put canned whipped cream on cakes?

In an alternative reality, here is a DK (supermarket) arguing against using a handmixer.

Great memories😏
My uncle was an ambulance driver. He told some pretty gore stories as family entertainment (I guess, in hindsight, that it was part of a coping mechanism).

I see some of the same problems in simple police interogations and reports.

Can you elaborate on this one?

I have just spend a couple of days going through CIA documents. Interesting but also a bit frustratingΒΉ.

ΒΉI looked at the same resourses some years ago and remember the search options as way better (this part not directly related to your post).

8. Historians are good for highlighting that things people now think have been around for ages are more recent than you think…

Or conversely, things that people think are only recent phenomena have actually a lot older history

Opinion: Buying books - is what I personally think is the worst impact of Breixit! Or rather, not buying books.

I used to order my books in my favorit british bookstores. Now it is rather impossible due to import taxes and exorbiant fees.

Ps. Read this as a slightly ironic, personal, opinion.

I don't think that they always knew themselves (except the extreme right-left). I have known both ends of the spectrum, and those in between (I must be oldish😊).

Well yes, I understand. But it is difficult to discern without knowing the individual. The general statistics are not really reliable.

But this is a difficult subject to discuss online ( it becomes black/white really fast).

That really depends. How do you define antifacist?

Lots of people in Europe and the Us were sort of pro facist. It was an undercurrent in that era. Member of the party do not mean n... like not member of the party means not n...

Picture of a cannon in front a photostat of a battle from the second Schleswig war 1864 by painter Fritz Schultz.

The painting is very dramatic with uniformed German troops storming a Danish fortification. Gunsmoke, stabbing with bayonets, people being shot and all the gore of war suitable for a national heroic painting.

Nothing to do with the subject I am reseaching (besides bayonets) but it was a neat exhibition at the 1864 Miseum.

Doing that write-up of the small production of a special bayonet. Easy, short, well rounded.

Well: now I am chasing 13 prod. types, archivalia of several countries, obscure letters to even more obscure weapon dealers.

Wish somebody paid me to do this…

Re. boots theory. I have always wanted a pair of Docs, but they have always been expensive. A couple of years ago I decided to go with the Vimes boots theory and resarched for weeks. Docs are no longer quality (made chesply in the east), but Solovair are made in the UK on the former Doc factory!

People throw out treasure. I’m not going to say which library was throwing out this scrapbook of newspaper clippings from 1910-1911 DOCUMENTING THE ENTIRE CRIPPEN CASE, but it’s in the right hands now (mine). Literal archival material, including things I’d never seen before. #StoryofaMurder
