The Emergency Is the Atmosphere β€œIt’s meant to exhaust us. It’s meant to destroy us."

"There just isn’t enough time. There’s only what we manage to make of itβ€”what we build, what we protect, what we remember to carry to the car. The gas mask. The snacks. The question we forgot to ask. The name of the person taken." My latest.

The CDC tried to remove remote work as an accommodation for disabled people.

Working from home is a game changer when you’re chronically ill. It allows people to remain in the workforce who otherwise wouldn’t be able to.

Big thanks to the unions who fought this, the CDC caved from the pressure

β€œWe are told by leaders that we are the future. But when it comes to the ongoing pandemic, our present is being stolen right in front of our eyes.”

Incredible speech by Violet Affleck who warned about the ongoing dangers of COVID & Long Covid, & advocated for masks and clean air at the UN today!

RFK Jr.'s tenure has been one horrifying avoidable atrocity after another, driving our society backwards to an extent we might not recover from in my lifetime.
But "autistic kids will never play baseball" is one of the most unintentionally hilarious things any politician has ever said

If you, like me, are the parent of a neuro-atypical child dreading this autism press conference, please remember: These are the people hurting our kids. Not us. They are the ones stigmatizing and pathologizing them. They are the ones peddling untested science. And we should be very, very angry.

Autism isn't a disease
It's a developmental difference, part of the natural diversity human brains. Framing it as a disease fuels stigma.

(It doesn't need to be "cured" with oversold supplements based on thin scientific evidence πŸ˜’)

With RFK's Attacks on the COVID Vaccine It's Official: We Don't Have the Tools RFK's moves to limit access to the COVID vaccine are the latest in a long line of moves that shrank- rather than expanded- the size of the so-called anti-COVID "toolbox"

Applies to πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Canada too, which also dropped all #NPI mitigations in favour of a vaccine-only strategy, & this year is restricting "healthy" Canadians to only one vaccine -

"We don’t have the tools. And we deserve more than one":

My anger at visibly and audibly ill people not masking in crowded public spaces is mixed with genuine confusion. Why do they think spreading sickness is fine? It’s inexplicable to me.

Some autistic people don't speak, some speak a lot.

Some stim, some don't.

Some avoid eye contact, some don't.

Autism isn’t just one story.

It’s a library full of wonderful people.

Why scientists are rethinking the immune effects of SARS-CoV-2 β€œImmunity debt,” a theory to explain the global surge in non-covid infections since pandemic restrictions were lifted, is increasingly being challenged by emerging evidence. Nick Tsergas reports Myco...

β€œA growing number of scientists believe that the SARS-CoV-2 virus may instead be subtly altering our immune systems. If correct, their hypothesis will change how we understand everything from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) to shingles to sepsis.”

Systems are crumbling – but daily life continues. The dissonance is real If everything feels broken but strangely normal, the Soviet-era concept of hypernormalization can help

People who feel the β€œwrongness” of current conditions acutely may be experiencing some depression and anxiety, but those feelings can be quite rational – not a symptom of poor mental health, alarmism or a lack of proper perspective, Hickman says.
