This is A’s llama landscape. A just missed out on scoring for 3 llamas on level 2. It always looks very pretty at the end of the game. Those lovely scoring llamas do however get in the way of landscape building!

M decided they wanted a game of Llamaland. Whilst A enjoys the game they find shapes quite challenging. Fun was had as we made landscapes and grew plants to feed our llamas. Putting down scoring tokens before the end of the game adds some focus.

Our cities which are infact just a swirl of colours and point symbols. The box art is very nice the tiles seem bland in comparison.

Sorcerer City. We found the Dark Mage and the Giant quite irritating (the whole point of the monsters!). The game was quite close A only winning by 6 points. We use the app for the timer, but today we tried out the sand timer to find it was 7 seconds faster! #boardgames #sorcerercity

We dusted off Oltreé today. It didn’t go well, we struggled to keep trouble cards out of the Satrapy. Unlucky dice rolls didn’t help either. We managed to just get a minor victory. #boardgames #oltree

Another game of Creature Caravan. A had incentive to fight at least 4 Ember zombies, whilst M had the card which meant no zombies were collected. Despite getting to the city M lost, it’s good to know that travelling isn’t the only route to victory.

After sitting on the shelf of opportunity for over a year we finally played Subterra 2. We lost badly by splitting up our adventures. We should have known better having played the original Subterra many times! Despite our failure we enjoyed the game. #boardgames #subterra2

M won this game of underwater cities. This shows A’s player board, they have 5 cities 3 of which are red and lots of upgraded tunnels.

We don’t play Underwater Cities very often. This week M started a 3 player game on Yucata and we played the cardboard version. This game only took about an hour and 10 minutes, M won by a fairly large margin. #boardgames #underwatercities

The sail board. There are lots of nice wooden rocks and kraken tentacles which our ship had to avoid to arrive safely home.

We are really enjoying Sail. In this game we managed to sail quite quickly to our destination. Putting cards in the kraken deck is just as important as moving.

M’s jungle with an impressive number of trees and animals.

Life of the Amazonia was dusted off. We are currently unsure if this is a keeper. We like the theme and enjoy bag building but M is so much better and more efficient than A. Whilst winning isn’t everything knowing you’ve lost so early on isn’t fun. #boardgames #amazonia

The district noir cards show villains and heroes. Huge cards, that need a reasonable amount of table space.

A couple of quick games before bed. District Noir a push your luck two player game, we both gained a victory each. We followed this by a very old favourite Port Royal. M won 13 points to A’s 12, it reminded us to try the co op version again.

In The Footsteps of Darwin with expansion. M was initially a little reluctant to buy the expansion thinking it would detract from the simplicity. We both now agree that for us it adds more interest by adding a few goals and the opportunity to get more animals.

We’ve played It’s a wonderful world over 80 times. Most of those games have been with our copy and the corruption expansion. The BGA implementation is the base game only but we still enjoy playing it turn based with a friend. M won this game by a fair margin. #boardgames #itsawonderfulworld

Lots of birds and capybara on landscape types but too many mistakes were made by A.

A quick couple of games of Caracas. Despite having managed to collect a lot of monkeys in one game and unusual animals in another, A lost both games. Too many mistakes were made (rivers that don’t connect to other rivers). A fun tile laying game similar to Cascadia. #boardgames #caracas

Lots of birds with eggs at the end of the game. There were an unusually low number of eggs laid.

Wingspan was our Saturday afternoon choice of game. A placed two raptors that needed mice or cards which was unusual. M won by having scored more points on bonus cards.

Board games!

The first chapter in the Lord of the rings adventure book. Here is a map of the shire and Bree, showing the plastic minis of hobbits and Aragorn on weathertop.

We decided to start playing through the LOTR Adventure Book again. Each episode takes about fifteen minutes, we did the first two. A great co op, very thematic and highly replayable. #boardgames #lotradventurebook

After an intense morning we decided on a quiet game. Hadrians Wall is multi player solitaire, the perfect choice. We took different routes, M built more buildings and had a few gladiator bouts. A just decided to do tracks. The winner had two extra points. #boardgames #hadrianswall

Inco, a new character from the ‘into the wild’ expansion to Aeon’s End - the new age. A tough fight today against Rageborne.

Into the Wild with Aeon’s End. We have started using the expedition mode of The New Age, today we fought Rageborne. It was tough as the nemesis deck turned over a lot of minions, both our mages and Gravehold were very low on health by the end. #boardgames #thenewage

No photo as we played on BGA - this week we tried out Ink. We first played with three which was harder because there was more competition for the personal ink colours. With two it was easier as we collected different colours. Very abstract with no theme but enjoyable. #boardgames #ink

Another play of Knitting Circle. At first we thought this was a miss for us as it seemed more involved than Calico. However after 3 plays we’ve decided it’s about the same level of brain burning complexity just with yarn instead of fabric.

Our bus routes on the shared board of get on board. There was clearly a lot of traffic as we both chose the same route! M won by getting both the shared goals.

Get On Board - New York and London. A mix of flip and write with a shared board to put down the bus route. There is a good amount of interaction even in a two player game. M won this game by 10 points by getting both the shared goals. A quick fun filler.

A’s cards in our game of creature caravan. The artwork is great, lots of imagination has gone into the individual illustrations on each colourful card.

A high scoring game of Creature Caravan. We both managed to get to Eastrey fairly easily with the aid of various machines and creatures. M won by defeating a lot of zombies and having points on cards. A game we enjoy in the evening as it only takes 45 minutes.

This is As knitting. They made some mittens, scarfs and a sweater. Certainly a lot to think about in a small game.

Our second play of Knitting Circle. Getting the right colours and types of knitting is quite challenging. Whilst it has a similar feel to Calico it is much more involved. We might thin some of the buttons and yarns out for two player games.

Out first play of Knitting Circle was slow as we read the rules as we played. There are a lot of buttons which need flipping before play starts so we found some cloth bags from another game and used those instead. We did enjoy the game and hope to table it again soon. #boardgames #knittingcircle

Today is the last day of our summer break. We decided to try out the new TM board on the Utopia side. Some of the milestones on both sides need Turmoil or Venus Next which we don’t own. However we did enjoy the others goals. A won with a 22 point lead. #boardgames #terraformingmars

We managed to beat Fenrix on easy mode in Aeon’s End. It was tough, Sahala became exhausted as the claws become verypowerful. As usual a tense finish, now to try some of the expansions….

River valley glassworks. The picture shows Hoppingtons glass mart. A won this game comfortably by having two rows and two columns with four pieces of glass.

A few fillers before making a batch of blackberry jam. First a victory each of River Valley Glassworks - then a victory each of Abandon All Artichokes. What a fun way to spend an afternoon!
